Just wondering everyone's opinions on System? A friend of mine burnt me (shhhh, don't rat me out) copies of 4 of their albums. The one I don't have is, "Steal this Album".

Anyway, Mezmerize and Hypnotize are awesome albums, and they are really starting to grow on me. To many bands that have come out in the past 10 years don't have much character or their own sound. System seems to have that thing that makes them stand out.

  • I like em. They're talented guys. That said, I haven't heard much since Toxicity.

  • I kind of have to wonder if System fans from the beginning consider the Hypnotize album (the latest) kind of like a sell out album. The 4 I have, I knew the most from Hypnotize.
  • I love System.....great band, and not afraid to think outside the box. I saw them this year at Ozzfest in Toronto, and they put on an amazing live show too....sounded great, and had cool screen effects during the show. IMO, Toxicity is their best album, very raw and LOUD!!!

Here's some songs to listen to if you don't want to go through 4 albums....

    Spiders
Deer Dance (fucking awesome song.....prob my favourite from them)
    Suite Pee
    ATWA
    Shimmy
    Toxicity
    Aerials
    Bounce
    Chop Suey
    BYOB
    Revenga
    Question!
    Attack
    Stealing Society
    Holy Mountains
    Lonely Day
    Soldier Side (another wicked track!)

    enjoy! :D

  • Didn't they split recently?

Yea apparently they are on a hiatus for atleast 5 years from what I have read. I really hope they do get back together though because I really like SOAD.

Yes or no depending on who you listen to.....its a tough call but they're all in their older 30's age wise (Serj is 40 this year) so I think a "5 year hiatus" may be permanent...a shame if it is

fan of all thier early stuff. the new stuff? didn't like the album versions much (kinda reminded me of vitalogy for some stupid reason) but live? the new songs mixed with the old are good.

I lost interest after Toxicity. Spiders is such an awesome song. Pretty good live as well.

Hey thanks for the list. Funny, the two that I would consider early favorites (Dreaming and U-Fig) aren't on your list. That's cool though, so I have some other ones to check out.

I have to agree with the think outside the box comment. Some of their lyrics and things they tried, you can tell they had a little bit of fun with. A few examples are Radio/Video, This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song, U-Fig, and Vicinity Of Obscenity.
  • I've only listened to Mezmerize and Hypnotize but So far so good. I guess I should probably check out there older albums. From what I'm Hearing from you guys, I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't get back together. I will be nice if they do though.

  • i think they suck, but that's just me as a person who cannot listen to a lot of screaming and yelling.

thought it was funny though when they dropped the f-bomb numerous times on SNL though.

I thought they were doing great until Mezmerize and especially Hypnotize... these two albums do nothing for me which is a shame cos I liked the older stuff. :o

weird, seems like most people prefer their older stuff. i only have hynotize, and i think it is a very decent album. definately not sell out material, maybe a bit more poppy though

No problem! :D Yes they're certainly not your average rock band, but the thing is they are actually all very skillful musicians, and Serj is a trained opera singer.....pretty cool!

I love how their songs seem so long with the multiple sections, but alot of them are under three minutes. Malakian should definitely go back to the backup singer. Although I am interested to hear a solo album from him.

Toxicity is a masterpiece. Mesmerize/Hypnotize is good as one album, but separately they clock in right around 30 minutes. Not a big fan of the first album or Steal This Album.

Yeah well they can be a little gimmicky at times, but they make songs like Holy Mountains and Soldier Side that are simply amazing

One of my favorite bands. I loved their last two albums. Hopefully i will see them live some day.
Who cares if the world is going down the toilet? Eddie Vedder got his mojo back!
  • I personally thought Mesmerize and Hypnotize were their best albums. Lost in Hollywood, Soldier Side, Violent Pornography, Cigaro, and Hypnotize are all excellent tracks!!!

I enjoyed the first two albums. I really love Toxicity. I've only heard bits and peices form mesmerize/hypnotize. It's not bad but I'm not a huge fan of the direction they took. I thought Darren Malakian should have stuck to the guitar and a bit aof back up. Leave the singing to Sergei. Still a decent band though. One of the only metal bands I'll actually listen too.

Has to be one of the clunkiest band names ever.  Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue,  or make sense (to me).  But I'm always open for something new so will check them out.
