Hey guys, I am looking at date possibilities for my anniversary tonight.
One of them is Sigur Ros. I don't know how I feel about their music. Is the live show going to convert me?

Hubby is Jazz fan.
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

I can't speak from first-hand experience, but my good friend saw them in St. Louis a few years ago.

He said it was so quiet between songs, you could hear glasses clinking at the bar in the back.

He also said it was one of the best shows he's ever seen.

    Nice, thanks.

I think we have opted to stay in tonight, but they are playing again tomorrow, which happens to be my hubby's birthday... so perhaps we'll go for it :)

As long as you are in a relaxed mood, they are great to see perform live. I've come close to falling asleep a few times at their shows, not out of boredom, but due to being lured into such a state of relaxation.

If you are in the mood for a celebratory party band, then stay away!

ahah, it was between Sigur Ros and the Dandy Wharols to tell you the truth :D

And Strangestribe... thing is I haven't decided yet how I feel about their music :)

  • honestly..one of the greatest live experiences you will ever take in. (its very different that what you think of a as a "rock show"). The audience is dead silent, sits quietly until the end of the song and roars approval.

Go..trust me. You will never go to a show quite like it..and you will want most of the shows you go to, to follow suit (respect for the artist and their work that is).

    Go..seriously..don't wait. Go.

  • Six months ago I would have said that they sucked and are a horrible band. These past couple of weeks I have had to study A LOT, so I have been looking for the perfect 'study band'. I have found that Sigur Ros allows me to study for a long period of time without realizing the time. They make very relaxing music.
  • im seeing them next wednesday in chicago... CANT WAIT! from the live dvd of them i saw, its gonna be BREATH TAKING

  • some fan reviews are up on their message board after last nights tour opener. They are not touring with the stings or horns so people were sort of "worried' but in reading it sounds like they have hit it out of the park again.

    1 more day till boston...

Well, I found tickets row LL orchestra on ticketmaster today (with the show sold out). Why don't these things happen to me with PJ or EV?

Anyway, I will let you know :)

I picked up a 2nd row seat for the San Diego show, cannot wait. I've missed the last two tours, but made a point to see them this time around.

i am going to see them for the first time on saturday and i expect to be blown away
..and you will come to find that we are all one mind, capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable
  • I saw them at Bonnaroo with the horns and strings...it was amazing. Just got done seeing PJ play and Sigur Ros just started when we got to ther stage. Ate a small handfull of mushrooms and the show was just amazing. Translates very well when played loud in an open area. I don't see how anyone could be dissapointed with their live performance.

Well, you were all right. Except for Joejoe... I could not possibly have fallen asleep yesterday night. It was an incredible fun experience, and contrary to my expectations of it. I expected them to be like their opening band, from what I had heard about them (very little, admittedly), sort of backgroundish and suggestive of the Iceland atmosphere with the occasional disharmony to make a conceptual point. The funny thing is I loved the opening band, because those things it did really, really well. Don't miss them.

But then they came up. They had a little bit of an echo issue in a handful of the songs, but blown away is the best way to put it. What a voice, what great musicianship. But the thing is... not backgroundish AT ALL. I was amazed by the songwriting. The songs were full of soul and melody. And the live performance was great: their stage presence, the harmony of the instruments.

We were so lucky to pull out the tickets we did... the people directly in front of us had clicked reload for an hour during the PRESALE (sounds familiar, I told the dude :p)

And the best audience ever, I agree with whoever commented on that. COMPLETE silence and then roaring. The intermission before the encore was continuous roaring and clapping. I will take them next EV tour, thanks :)

What a great experience, thanks for swaying me.
    Hubby loved it too :)

The show last night was incredible. Huge levels of intensity, the musicianship was awesome, as were the vocals. It sounded very full, I didn't notice anything lacking (from them touring without the strings/horns).

As others have said, the opening band (parachutes) were very good too. Make sure you get there in time to see them.
