In my humble opinion, they are one of the most underrated groups OF ALL TIME. They did so much for funk and rock in general. So many hip hop groups sample them but they get no credit. Here is to George Porter Jr, Leo Nocentelli, Zigaboo Modeliste, and Art Neville!

Key tracks to download:

Tippi-Toes
Good Old Funky Music
Cardova
Cissy Strut

I agree that they are one of the most underrated of all time. The only time i have ever heard about them from anyone was when Katrina destroyed New Orleans. Thats sad.

Anyone reccomend some albums for me? I have one but its just B-sides and stuff.

  • Their original self-titled is classic. Also check out Look-Ka Py Py and Fire on the Bayou.

Got the "Original Album Series" box set the other day, and SO much good music. 5 CD box set for $15 its almost like stealing.
  • I didn't know about them until I watched the New Orleans episode of Sonic Highways. I bought a few of their albums based on what I liked on youtube. "Revolution" is a brilliant album and I recommend it if you (or anyone) is looking to get into them.

    Do you mean Rejuvenation?
  • Yes, yes I do. Haha. I was going by memory. It's a great album.

I'm lucky to have most of their records. I don't know how really underrated they are. Most people that enjoy funk and soul music know that The Meters are the shtuff. Though more appreciation is always warranted! On an obviously related note, The Neville Brothers also need more recognition.

    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2
    2024 Sacramento, CA
