Fucking rule. I mean I had always heard of them but never actually heard them and they absoultly slay. My god are they good. I only have Ruby Vroom and Irriseitable Bliss but they are fucking staggering, super Bon Bon has reached the peak of my itunes most played list in the last month alone. I love it. anyone else share this feeling?

i love them in small doses. his monotone gets on my nerves after a while but i love the textures and other wacky shit in the music.

I'm a big Soul Coughing fan! I was lucky enough to see them before they broke up, they put on a great show! Check out the cd 'El Oso' too, I love the song "St. Louis is Listening".
  • They came to my college in St Paul back in 96 the night before they played a show in Minneapolis. I love em, but yes, the lead vocals do get a bit dull after a while...

Love Soul Coughing! Great band, found them through the late, great Rev 105 in Minneapolis. They were basically the house band for that station. If you are into boots, there are a bunch of live shows from Soul Coughing and Mike Doughty hosted over at the live music archive (for either download or streaming):

"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

At least we have "Drive" 105 now...it's not the same, but decent. (and they played Hunger Strike for me about 10 minutes after I requested some PJ) :D

  • Just repurchased the "Lust in Phaze" best-of today! It's got a smattering of tunes from all of their albums, as well as a pretty sweet remix of "Super Bonbon", plus "Unmarked Helicopters", which has always been one of my faves. Then, there's a nice live recording of "Casiotone Nation". If you only have the two albums, this is definitely worth picking up. You may want to look into Mike Doughty's solo work too; "Haughty Melodic" is a fantastic little record. A little more mellow, a little less weird than Soul Coughing, but a good listen nonetheless.

My buddy played me some of Mike Doughty's solo stuff while I was in Chicago. It was pretty good, kind of like he was just sitting in a bar with his guitar playing some tunes.

  • I saw them live as an opener in 1996 and they blew me away. They really won me over with a Black Sabbath cover. I ran out and bought then new LP "Irresistable Bliss," but was very disappointed with the exception of "Paint." I love that tune! I've never gotten into them...never heard much other than singles from that point on, but none of the single have done it for me.
