The cure

so I used to think the Cure were a fucking joke-mainly because I heard all these jokes in where The Cure where the punchline but anyways, and my friend lent me "Bloodflowers" and that record bored the shit out of me but a while ago after going on an Uncut Magazine kick and reading a splatter of positive things about their self titled album from like 04 I decided to check it out, and well it was really actually kind of good. Anyways I went out and got disintegration and that was cool too so I did the greatest hits thing, and well I think they're cool. Shit there is no point to the thread other than as a singles band they are pretty wicked...and uhh I got this great deal on a twelve pack Sleeman's earlier tonight so I've got drunk and started writing threads about the cure

    Thank you MrW.

Just popping on the Greatest Hits now and cranking Lullaby. :)

My all time favorite Cure song. Not that there aren't others that I love.

But there's something about Lullaby. aaah.......................:)

    Thanks again.

I only have two of their albums, Disintegration and Faith, but they're both very good. Disintegration is an all time favourite of mine - One of my Desert Island top 10.

I think Disintegration is probably my favorite album of all time - not a bad song on it (personal fav is the title track)

.....the trilogy of albums (Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers) are all incredible

.....however my favorite Cure song is "From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea" off Wish (another incredible album)

.....I have their s/t new(ish) album but I havent really spent much quality time with it. I own all their albums - they have an incredibly impressive catalogue

.....if you ever get the chance to see them live - do it. I saw them on the Bloodflowers tour and they played for over 3 hours, it was INCREDIBLE (also saw them a couple years back on the Curiosa Festival tour with Interpol and Mogwai - an amazing day of music)

I still listen to "The Head on the Door". I think one of my favorite Cure songs has got to be "The Blood" from that same album.

I finally bought the Trilogy dvd today. So I'll probably be in the mood to talk about it tomorrow or the next day.

The song Want is one of my favourites, as is the b side, Big Hand.
  • I love the Cure. Disintegration is a fucking masterpiece. There's some boring stuff in there but plenty of fantastic music.

'Close to Me' is my favorite Cure song. I just fucking love how sexy it is.

'Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me' is probably my favorite album though. I just got into them a couple years ago, but I can say they are one of my favorite bands now.
    Cock Fight.
  • Seventeen Seconds and Disintegration are my favorite Cure albums. The Trilogy is obviously incredible too. The "Greatest Hits" compilation is one of the great mysteries of our time, considering MOST of the stuff on there is not only far from their best, but many songs on there weren't even popular.

That is the absolute WORST choice someone can make looking to explore The Cure. The most accesible album for newcomers has to be Disintegration. It has songs that seem to represent everything The Cure is...

The Cure are one of those bands with lots of great songs just sort of scattered across their catalog, even beyond the singles there is all kinds of good stuff, you just have to have the patience to dig through the catalog and find it.

And Disintegration is a masterpiece, Plainsong is easily one of my favorite songs ever.
