Best cover version I ever heard is Waco Brothers doing Neil Young's Revolution Blues, it's incredible. I'm at pains to say that it's maybe even better than the original, which it isn't of course because the lyrics are so excellent and genius. But their version is much more rock n roll, more urgent, and it works a treat :)
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....
  • Soundgarden- Helter Skeltar (Beatles)..this is amazing, totally reworked an average song into some crazy dark shit.

Cornell- Thankyou (Led Zep). Better than the original

Something for Kate- Harpoon (Jebediah) Prefer it to the original

Pearl Jam -Love, Reign O'er Me (The Who) Love Eds vocals on this one.

An AVERAGE song?!?! Helter Skelter was about as heavy as the popular music scene would allow. I have no doubt that HS would be a lot heavier and darker (as would many other Beatles songs) if there was the same liberty in music as there is today. Personally, I don't think Soundgarden did much to that song other than modernised it a bit. Their cover of Come Together was a lot more adventurous.

Nah Man. Sorry disagree with you here. The live version I have from SG are amazing. Especially the way Cornell screams "coming gown faster don't let me break you". But what I really love is the instrumental and build-up to the final chorus. I think it's their best cover actually.

The "come together" cover does nothing for me, its just kind of what I expected it to sound like coming from Soundgarden.

The original has to much of Robert Plant's vocal wankery. Cornell sang and played it straight up. I actually think that a lot of Zep tunes were done better by other artists, for example Hearts cover of the Battle for Evermore.

'vocal wankery', what a lot of crapola. Plant has the greatest voice ever in rock, and anyway that song is surely more about the beautiful words and melodies, and as for the Heart cover, sure it was decent, but doesn't show on the radar for me. Also we really have to consider the expertsise shown in the writing and execution of these songs, a lot of which was carried out with incredibly basic equipment, and under a much less open minded music scene than these modern day covers have.

I love the original of that, I hate it when they play it on the radio and they cut it before the guitar solo at the end.
