i really think he is the most overlooked musician that has ever existed. has he ever made a song that wasn't good? screaming trees were not as popular as they should have been, his solo stuff is amazing, the gutter twins, qotsa, mad season, isobel campbell... EVERYTHING IS AMAZING!

just got tickets to see Gutter Twins in november in brooklyn... i am so freaking excited!

honestly though, has he ever made bad music? i wish i could listen to everything he's made at the same time right now.. i am fiending!

I wish I could say something more thoughtful but I can't. No he has never made a bad song. I have been on a huge Lanegan kick lately. He is amazing. His lyrics, the voice, everything is perfect. I can't wait for the new Soulsavers album!!!!! What I am really hoping for is a new solo album!

well some of the early Trees songs were a little dodgy - weak, twangy Smiths-cum-grungy efforts that didn´t suit Lanegan at all. Since Uncle Anesthesia -which wasn´t too great- he´s made leaps and bounds, I can´t think of anybody who can compete with his body of work in the same period. As somebody named Rhino said: everything he touches turns to gold.

As Elmer said, plenty of the pre-Sweet Oblivion Screaming Trees stuff was decidely average-to-poor. Even If And Especially When suffers from terrible production but you can tell the songs aren't up to scratch either.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

I heard a rumor a while back that Mark and Ed were in the studio recoding together. I think this was a few years ago. Does anyone know if this was true?I would love to hear the two if them sing together.
