The first album I ever bought on my own was Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde. I had received some money for my birthday and that album had recently come out (shows my age, though I was very young when I bought it!). That same year, I got money for Christmas and I bought 'The Doors' sometime after the new year - again it had just come out.
cassette - Beastie Boys/Licensed to Ill: I got this when it came out when I was in kindergarten.
CD - Ben Folds Five/self titled: I got this in July of 97.
I don't remember the first album I ever owned ... it might have been The Velvet Underground and Nico, I can remember listening to that over and over when I was 8 or 9 ... but that must have been a gift, because the first two I bought with my own money were Get Your Wings by Aerosmith, and the first Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers album.
"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 1963
Kiss- Rock and Roll Over. Calling Dr. Love was my favorite cut. I can't remember how old I was, but I chose the record over the Kiss beltbuckle. I think that was a wise choice!!!
I first started buying lps back in 1974 (guess a bit before some of you guys were even born!).
Deja Vu- CSNY.
Chicago V.
Santanas Greatest Hits.
Harvest- Neil Young.
Homecoming- America.
There goes Rhymin Simon- Paul Simon.
Feats dont fail me now- Little Feat.
Kathy Lied-Steely Dan.
Darkness on the edge of town- Bruce Sprintsteen.
On the Border- Eagles.
One of these was the very first, cannot remember which.

As far as a couple of categories go:
1st greatest hits collection - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (for my 18th birthday)
1st box set - Message in a Box by The Police (Januaray of Y2K)
I'm pretty sure it was a few, because I had a paper route and my first money went into some records.
The Mothers Of Invention - Freak Out (Frank Zappa)
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
The Grateful Dead's first one.
Probably the Kinks first one, too.
Yup, I was a weirdo from the start and never looked back!
