The first album I ever bought on my own was Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde. I had received some money for my birthday and that album had recently come out (shows my age, though I was very young when I bought it!). That same year, I got money for Christmas and I bought 'The Doors' sometime after the new year - again it had just come out.

I don't remember the first album I ever owned ... it might have been The Velvet Underground and Nico, I can remember listening to that over and over when I was 8 or 9 ... but that must have been a gift, because the first two I bought with my own money were Get Your Wings by Aerosmith, and the first Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers album.

First album I ever bought I think was Sing the Blues by The Simpsons. Bought it on cassette when I was 8.

First real album I ever bought was Fat of the Land by the Prodigy. That's really what started it all.

  • Kiss- Rock and Roll Over. Calling Dr. Love was my favorite cut. I can't remember how old I was, but I chose the record over the Kiss beltbuckle. I think that was a wise choice!!!

As far as a couple of categories go:

1st greatest hits collection - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (for my 18th birthday)
1st box set - Message in a Box by The Police (Januaray of Y2K)
  • I'm pretty sure it was a few, because I had a paper route and my first money went into some records.
The Mothers Of Invention - Freak Out (Frank Zappa)
    Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
    The Grateful Dead's first one.
Probably the Kinks first one, too.

Yup, I was a weirdo from the start and never looked back!
