Anyone hear this album yet? comes out monday but they have the entire album on their myspace page. It's really good imo. Every song is pretty long so it does good for a 10 song album.

cant wait to pick this one up!
there'll be time for laughin'
there's no time to cry
soon i will be leavin'
look me in the eye
no matter what's in front of me
it's your face that i'll see

Damn, now I have to decide to listen to it now or to buy it and then listen to it. I am not sure because I dislike the new single but them and Richard Ashcroft solo have never disappointed me considering I bought all their record before hearing them and love them.

My brother is an obsessive Verve fan so Ive pretty much heard the entire album playing from his room. I did see them live though and Love is Noise was amazing and Sit and Wonder was pretty good.
  • I'm on my third listen now and I am loving the album. I was not at all impressed by "Love is Noise" but I am completely blown away by the rest of the album. Love is Noise doesn't really seem to fit with the rest of the album at all. Anyways I will definitely be picking this up Tuesday.

The first 2 songs are pretty good 'Sit and Wonder' & 'Love is Noise' but then it turns pretty quickly to an enhanced Richard Ashcroft solo record which isn't what I really hoped for! It is sadly enough not the big comeback I hoped for ... sniff!

I agree with this. I like the start of the album and love the last song, "Appalachian Springs." It sounds like Richard Ashcroft wrote the middle portion of the album with another solo album in mind, and the rest of The Verve just happens to be playing on it. I was expecting a return to the "A Norther Soul" style.

I still like the album as a whole, just not what I was expecting.
  • We got the album in at work today and I gave it a listen or two... damn. I've never struggled to get through a first listen of any album I've eagerly awaited before.

    Really, really not feeling it.

Doesn't gel as an album and the songs are average at best. I love S&W live and enjoy the album version well enough but it falls apart as soon as it awkwardly cuts to LIN (which is far longer than it needs to be). I expected a lot more from songs like Rather Be, Judas & I See Houses. It's becoming more and more obvious how limited Ashcroft is as a vocalist. He has nothing to say, really. Usually his delivery makes that ignorable, but not this time around.

Noise Epic is pretty good, but only when held up to the other tracks on this album and lord know Ashcroft could never pull this off live (unless he had a teleprompter). Columbo is a good one too, but is too little too late. Valium Skies is rubbish, one of Ashcroft's more embarrassing lyrical contributions. App Springs I could go either way on really, I'll need a few more listens.

I was really fired up for this re-union and the tours... what could have been. At least now I know why only S&W was the only new song played live back in Nov & Dec and why only they've given a go at the two others at the festivals.

    So disappointing.

i had it on in the background the other day and it sounded ok. just the myspace stream. i'll be picking it up next week. im excited, i've recently been going back through their old albums (listening to the verve ep right now actually). i didnt mind ashcroft's first solo album, so i imagine i will enjoy this. though i hardly expect it to blow my mind.
    and like that... he's gone.
