Haven't had a flare since my surgery back in '00. I went into the hospital back in Jan '05 because there was some blockage, but nothing major.

Sorry to hear of your ailment PBM. I myself suffer from an undiagnosed stomach disorder that causes severe nausea and frequent vomitting most days a week but from what I hear it is nothing compared to crohns. I wish you all the luck in the world and hope you will never be limited by this disease.

Have you gotten it checked out by a doctor?

I remember having stomach pains and frequent bathroom visits back in late '99...didn't know what to do.

Co-Worker suggested going to a Gastro Doctor. 3 Colonoscopy's, 1 abcess and 1 colon resection later....

Just an update on my diagnosis. I saw my gastroenterologist today and I am suppose to start Remicade on May 12.

Basically with Crohn's, your immune system attacks your body. Remicade suppresses your immune system. So, while I am more prone to infections, hopefully, I will start to feel better.

I know many of you support various CCFA causes because of the outspoken awareness of Mike. Thanks for all your encouraging words and donations.

Hopefully, I will be up to speed this September. While I won't be able to toss back any Canadian beer, I will toast a Mountain Dew (just as bad for me) with you.

Cheers to the fans, the band and Mike.

    Sincerely,

    PissBottleMan

I am so happy to hear that you're recovering! My close friend Gina has suffered with this disease since the age of 18 which is rare in and of itself,... recently she's had some hard times,... in & out of the hospital at least 5 fucking times in 5 weeks,.. she's just had surgery and is staring at 6-7 weeks of recovery... It pains me so to see here have attacks and witness her struggle and have it hold her back at times from creating music,... people like you & mike help to educate me as well as gina, but i self educated myself the minute she was diagnosed....

    wishing you well!!

    Mystique420,

I hope Gina is well...I have good days and bad days...I get depressed a lot because my energy is low.

I have to make the most of the times where I feel good though.

Tell Gina to keep her spirits up.

    How you are well.

More than one doctor has performed many a test but no clear answer has been found. I suppose I'm a medical marvel :). I find it's more manageable if I simply eat a proper diet, lay off the alcohol, and smoke pot after larger meals (is there nothing it can't do). It may not be a cure, but its the best I can do for now.

That sucks man. I was diagnosed when I was 14 after going through all the tests. I had suffered for at least a year before we finally got it figured out. I was told it was Psychosomatic by doctors at first. My family kept pushing, and finally found out it was Crohn's. Few months later I had surgery. I had a 2nd operation 2 years later...that was 7 years ago :) I haven't had a serious flare up since. I get obstructions and pain occasionally (obstructions which cause pain is more common for me).

I use the same practice as you for post-meal discomfort / pain. It's like a light switch. You feel like shit, and you want to puke. Smoke and J and the switch goes off. Pain is gone, you feel normal again. I only wish I discovered its effectivness before I lost my colon :)

Best of luck to you. I hope you figure out what's wrong in there.

  • I found out a couple of weeks ago that my step sister was just diagnosed with Crohn's. I can only imagine what you guys go through after hearing how bad it is from her. I hope that all of the CCFA benefits going on this tour can help find a cure...or at least some help coping with it. Any ideas on how my step sister can help ease the pain? I'm sure she has meds but I'm not sure which ones. Thanks for the help!

I can only suggest she manage her diet well.

Play music, watch a great film...talk with friends...sometimes those little things can help.

    I wish her good health.

My doctors always say its psychosomatic too. That's a big load of shit though. Perhaps it is time to start going back and pushing a little harder. It's threads like this that make me love the pit.

My Grandfather had Ulcerative Colitis. From all the research I have done online about IBS there are some Natural remedies you can try to treat your symptoms. There is a product called Wobenzym - N which is basically a Natural anti-inflamatory also I have read taking Carlson's Fish Oil which is very high in Omega 3's which is a good fatty acid for your body. It helps with the inflammation. Also they say take some probiotics which is the opposite of antibiotics. Probiotcs are good bacteria which help with digestion. They can be found in yogurt or in supplements. Diet of course is a major part of helping with symptoms. I hope this helps some people. :D

  • Just dropping an update.... i went into the hospital at the end of March for colostomy surgery. The great news is that I had actually improved from the first time I had seen the surgeon. I didn't have to have the colostomy!!!!!! :) What had happened is I had a stricture in my rectum. When i first saw the surgeon he dilated the stricture and performed a colonoscopy. he saw that the area around the stricture was very bad. They sent me home for 3 weeks to eat and put on weight. When i went into to surgery they took another look and saw that I had improved. The area around my stricture had gotten better and my colon looked good as well. The surgeon didn't want to cut away good colon so they just dilated the stricture a little more and put me on some new meds. They did go in and remove scar tissue from my previous surgery. So i did get cut, but at least it wasn't the colostomy. My family and I were so happy. It looks as I will avoid this surgery for a few more years. thank God!!

So I am doin well in that aspect, but on another note my wife and I are splitting up :( Which is very hard on me at this time. it has only been 2 weeks since my surgery. Things are very hard for me emotionally right now.
i don't what I am going to do. We have been together for 8 years and now it is all gone.

  • PBM thanks for posting about that! I'm gonna order my adopted mom something for mothers day. She will love that money goes to CCFA. She has Chrons and has been having a rough go of it for the last year.

Just wanted to say hang in there to everyone who is dealing with different stuff. I had a bad kidney infection last week and spent a ton of time in the bathroom. The meds they tried me on made me real sick and didn't kill off the infection. But it gave me alot of time to think of how much worse it could be and to be thankful that at least this time I got to stay home with my family instead of being at the hospital. I'm so glad that so far they don't think I have Chrons, just really bad IBS. Its funny sometimes to say that I'm thankful that I just have an auto immune disease. I feel like a one of the lucky ones when things could be so much worse.

I'll be praying for everyone who is trying to make it to shows this tour. Last year at The Gorge I went down hard during the middle of the show. It was the scariest time in my life. Luckily the amazing PJ staff saw that I was trying to get out and was acting funky. They took me to first aid right away and when I got hooked back up with my friends they took me back to Seattle to the hospital. I'm a little scared about going back to the Gorge again. But I have this life rule that when something kicks you down, you have to get back up again and face it. So I plan on going back for two nights at The Gorge and I'm kicking its ass this time. LOL We know things this time that we didn't know then, so in a way it was kind of fate. We found out thanks to my going down that my kidneys don't work real well anymore so I take alot better care of them.

If any of you are coming to the Gorge I'd love to meet up and say hi. We can stand around and I'll watch ya drink beer. ;) You can watch me drink my fifty billion gallons of water. hehe
  • A few questions for anyone who can help;

-What is the test or x-ray that most often diagnonses IBD/S, and the same question for Chrohn's?

-Has the medical community made a link between dysmenorrhea and Crohn's/IBS/IBD, and if so, where can I find info?

    Thanks
