Outside Lands Music Festival in SF

Absolutely the most horribly planned and executed music festival I have ever attended. It made me long for Coachella, even with the scorching heat. The public transportation getting there was a nightmare. It was impossible to get from stage to stage to see the different artists because of their locations. In order to get anywhere near the stage, you had to camp out there all day. They had the soundboards set up right in front of the stage with tents covering them, which did a fabulous job of blocking the view. During Radiohead's set, the sound went out several times, including during All I Need. Awful.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Sorry to hear that!! That sucks... it looked so good on paper!
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.

I knew this festival would be a disaster from the moment I heard about it. I'm a HUGE Radiohead fan and my wife & I both love Tom Petty. With that said we decided not to attend because of the mess that I knew it would be. Here's what I predicted back in March.

This festival is a joke. A 3 day pass runs $250? That's WAY too expensive for most fans. For my wife and I to attend all 3 days it would easily run us over $1,000 if you consider lodging, food, transportation and a couple of T-shirts and poster. It would honestly be way cheaper for us to travel to Los Angeles or Seattle to see Radiohead. Northern California Radiohead fans are pissed right now. Single day tickets will probably be at least $100 a piece. I'd be shocked if this thing made it past this year. It's a terrible location for a festival of this size. No camping, no affordable lodging, and no parking. I calculated it would cost us $70 in BART fares over the course of the weekend. If you live in the city and don't have to worry about lodging or transportation it's a must see event. But for fans who live outside the city it sucks big time. They should rename this thing the Yuppies of Northern California Festival because that's going to be the only people attending. Great group of bands but the price and logistical headaches make it easy to pass on.

Nice call. I live in the city, but transportation was still a mess. Fortunately, I won free tickets for the whole weekend. If I had shelled out the money, I would be even more pissed.

Seems like everyone and their grandmother wants to be able to say that they host an A-list music festival no matter if they're eqipped to pull it off or not. It's almost taking the joy the and the specialness out of music fests.

I agree, it seems like every city that has a vacant weed infested field thinks they're ready to host a festival. Bonaroo, Coachella, Lollapalooza & Austin City Limits are the only huge festivals we need in the US. I don't mind smaller festivals like Bumbershoot or Sasquatch. But it's these large festivals like Outside Lands & All Points West that are killing the summer concert experience for a lot of fans.
