In honor of these ridiculous threads that suggest this has been a bad decade for music, here's my top 20 non-Pearl Jam albums from January 1, 2000 up until now:

1. Arcade Fire- Neon Bible (It really is that good)
2. The Shins- Chutes Too Narrow
3. Modest Mouse- The Moon and Antarctica
4. Green Day- American Idiot
5. Beck- Sea Change
6. The Mars Volta- Frances the Mute
7. The Shins- Wincing the Night Away
8. Arcade Fire- Funeral
9. Incubus- Morning View
10. Thrice- Vheissu
11. Radiohead- Kid A
12. Wilco- A Ghost is Born
13. Bright Eyes- I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
14. Death Cab for Cutie- Plans
15. The Shins- Oh Inverted World
16. Idlewild- The Remote Part
17. Incubus- A Crow Left of the Murder
18. AFI- Sing the Sorrow
19. Sleater Kinney- The Woods
20. Mark Lanegan Band- Bubblegum

There are a ton of others that could have just as easily been on this list, but my main point is, there has been some spectacular stuff made in the last seven years.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Yeah, I just did this quickly because I was irritated with some of the posts on the other threads.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Here's mine off the top of my head right now:

    Bob Dylan's "Love And Theft"
    Arcade Fire "Funeral"
    The Libertines "Up The Bracket"
    Wilco "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"
    Kasabian "Empire"
    The White Stripes "Elephant"

Those are my favorites so far. Pretty safe list, but they're what I'm listening to these days

I read them all, and I appreciate your thoroughness. I just hope that when some of the close-minded folks on the board see albums popping up repeatedly on people's lists, they actually make an effort to leave the early 90s and give those albums a try. Based on that goal, if you could narrow it down to 20 that you think everyone should own or at least give some attention, that would be awesome.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Good music is hard to find, especially if you don't have the time and your only outlet is the "top 40". Threads like these help though, speaking from personal experience.

I've used these threads a lot to find music from this decade, as living in a small town all I have access to is MTV, VH1, Top 40 Radio, my peers (who love MRC & Fall Out Boy), and the Internet...so I've used this a lot. However, I've found most of the music from this period that people love on here to be very boring, unintersting, and redundant..but that's just me.

I can't really rank them, however, so here are my absolute favorites...

The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
    The White Stripes - Elephant
Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way
    Wilco - Kicking Television
The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
    Tool - Lateralus
The Strokes - Is This It?
    Deftones - White Pony
    Wolfmother - Wolfmother
    Pittsburgh 6/23/06
    Madison Square Garden 6/25/08

I don't like these kinds of threads because instead of listing the best albums of 2000+, everybody is likely going to list their favorite bands.

That said, I normally don't like Fu Manchu, but All Systems Are Go was a great album.

This isn't about creating some objective greatest albums list. There is no such thing as objectivity. This is about the albums from the past seven years that people on this board really love. Most of the time, when I discover a new band, I hear about it on this board first. When people repeatedly cite an album as being outstanding, that says something. It makes me at least check out the album. I would hope that others would follow suit, especially giving the bitching by so many that there isn't any good music out there. There are a bunch of very knowledgable and passionate music fans here who are listing off albums they feel are outstanding. Take notice.

Dont feel like making a long list so I will name my favorite from each year
    2007 NIN - Year Zero
    2006 Pearl Jam
2005 The Redwalls - De Nova
    2004 Jet - Get Born
2003 EIther HIM - Razorblade Romance or BRMC - Take Them On On Your Own............once again, not such a great year for music
2002 Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
2001 Weezer - Green Album.........must have been a really bad year because this is all I can think of from 2001 at the moment
2000 Oasis - Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants

The champ of all those........The Redwalls - De Nova, if you havent heard it listen to it because it is the best album you have never heard
    Alpine Valley 2000
    Summerfest 2006

    Pearl jam- Pearl jam
    The Burden Brothers- Mercy
The Burden Brothers- Buried in your Black Heart
    The white stripes De Stijl
    The white stripes- Elephant
The white stripes - Get behind me Satan
    Toadies- Hell below/ stars above
Eagles of Death Metal- Eag;es of Death metal
    Radiohead- Kid A

Again, let's leave Pearl Jam out of this. It's a Pearl Jam board, so we can assume everyone here has listened to those albums.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.
