I teach radio at a high school - and we play rock/alternative and like to play Christmas songs this type of the year.

We have 3 PJ songs, 2 Jimmy Eat World, Pumpkins, Sponge, 2 Weezer, U2, Jet, and maybe a couple others.

IS THERE MORE OUT THERE???

We are focusing on 90's and 2000's....thanks.

Using the word "methinks" in your message board posts doesn't make you look smart.

  • Do you have those Christmas albums "A Very Special Christmas"
there are about 5 of them, one was all acoustic and one was all country artists....don't have them in front of me right now, but some of the more memorable tracks were:

    Chris Cornell "Ave Maria"
    Sheryl Crow "Blue Christmas"
    Dave Matthews "The Christmas Song"
Patti Smith "We 3 Kings" I also have a version of this by Fuel.
Wyclef Jean "Little Drummer Boy / Hot Hot Hot"

it had tons of other artists.....Eve 6, Blues Travelr, Tracy Chapman, STevie nicks, Bon Jovi, Hootie and the Blowfish....

Are you wanting something like that....or are you wanting all orginal tracks?

Stone Temple Pilots' cover of Christmas Time is Here from the Peanuts Christmas special is fricking awesome.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

  • Fairytale of New York - The Pogues

The best Christmas song that isn't a traditional "Christmas" song ever.
    was it?....
  • I'm not sure if you consider them alternative, but the Barenaked Ladies have a Christmas CD from a few years back. Chris Isaak really isn't alternative, I'n not sure what you might call him, but his Cristmas CD is good. :) I really enjoy both of these.

I have an alternative CD of all Christmas music called "Oh Come All Ye Faithful", I think it was from the late 90's. It features Henry Rollins reading "Twas The Night Before Christmas". Other bands are:

    Dancehall Crashers
    Sponge
    Juliana Hatfield
    Shudder to Think
    Wool
    Bush
    Luscious Jackson
    Mike Watt
The Presidents of the United States of America
    Face to Face

I get at least one new Christmas CD every year. So, you guys are giving me some new stuff to go look for.

I was going to suggest that. Not rock, but definitely alternative since he sounds pissed as a fart the entire time.. fantastic song.

R.E.M. basically has the same fanclub christmas package thing PJ has except thay have switched to cd format a couple years ago. A lot of the songs do have to do with christmas too, such as Silver Bells, Christmas Time is Here Again (a beatle's song), Christmas Griping, Jesus Christ, Christmas Time, Toyland, Ghost Reindeer in the Sky, Good King Wencelas.
