I'm an ardent Skinny Fists lover but all of their releases are astonishing. A band that inspires praise in me like no other. I have a Slow Riot tattoo :p

Funny, I always thought the Skinny Fists cover would make a cool tatoo. But yeah, all their work is tremendous. Blows all other post-rock out of the water.

I like both designs but the Slow Riot cover can be appropriated to mean whatever the individual wants really, which I like. The hebrew itself is a bible passage and I'm an atheist but I have my own understanding of it, plus there's the GY!BE connection :) In retrospect though, the Skinny Fists cover might have garnered less questions from people about the meaning :D

Now I notice you're a Fugazi fan. I definitely wouldn't mind getting a tattoo that was somehow related to an Ian MacKaye project. I'm a huge fan of Minor Threat and Fugazi.

I just think the Skinny Fists cover looks cool.

But seriously, that's what I like about the Slow Riot cover, the ambiguity of it. I'm an atheist too, so I see where you're coming from on taking your own meaning from it.

A Dischord tatoo or something similar would be cool. Not sure what to do for Fugazi, but the Minor Threat logo always looked nice.

My problem with getting a band tatoo is that I'm effectively saying this band means more to me than all the others I listen to, and I'm not ready to make that kind of distinction.

Yeah I know what you mean but for me it was kind of like, I have my own understanding of the meaning of it and as far as it representing a band goes, I like the fact that in 20 years time I can look back and think "remember when they were the most important music in the world to me?" even if I no longer listen to them or whatever. I guess it's different to having an explicit band name or logo or whatever tattooed on you, since it's obvious what it is saying. For me, it doesn't just represent the band, it represents a period of my music listening when I really got deeply into music, as a teenager and it became my passion. It just seemed like the best symbol for that :)

I agree with that, the idea that it has a deeper meaning than "This is my favorite band." I can see how that would apply to GY!BE and Fugazi, among others. It's much more emotionaland personal with bands like that, or whomever a person may like.

This means I should probably bite the bullet and get that tattoo of Morrissey on my chest. How I would describe it to people, I have no idea.

:D My brother is a massive Morrissey fan and I've always said he should get a tattoo of him on his chest, just because it would one-up all the other obsessive fans out there :p
