lot of great bands in the 60's and 70's - too many to mention.

80's
Def Leppard
Van Halen
U2
REM
GNR
Petty
Ozzy
Metallica

90's
Nirvana
PJ
SoundGarden
AIC
Radiohead
Black Crowes
Chili Peppers

00's
- to me there hasn't been anything at all to get real excited about. Audioslave, Velvet Revolver, White Stripes, et al are just not cutting it for me. What in the world is going on? There has to be a revolution of some sort coming. Something like an Elvis, Beatles, Disco, Punk or Grunge explosion has to occur.

"Wherefore art thou rock band?" means "WHY are you rock band?", not "Where are you rock band?".

    Just thought I'd mention it.

Common misconception and one of my greatest pet peeves. When Juliet asks "wherefore art thou Romeo", she asks "Why are you Romeo?" (not where). In other words, why do you have to be from the family who is my family's greatest enemy? That is why she then goes into asking that he should "deny [his] father and refuse [his] name, or be but sworn [her] love and [she'll] no longer be a Capulet."

Check out Mclusky, Art Brut, Gogol Bordello, Broken Social Scene, The Detroit Cobras, My Morning Jacket, Stars, Wolf Parade, Animal Collective, The Weakerthans, The Raveonettes, The Mountain Goats, The New Pornographers, Ozomatli to mention just a few whose main body of work is being done right now.

many bands are doing great things in the 2k years, but most proably MTV or radio isn't gonna dig 'em out for you

    The Hold Steady
    Boris
    Murder By Death
    Pelican
    Mastodon
    My Morning Jacket

Just because the radio isn't playing them for you and you aren't looking for them, doesn't mean they don't exist.

i dissagree, a "revolution" of rock so to say, would mean radio stations are playing them, i know alot of underground bands but they just dont carry the same punch as bands do when they get famous, not many people know them, not much of a buzz, not many tours, etc, i think the big problem is radio playing shit music, some of these bands mentioned very well could be music wise but have not gotten into the mainstream , the govt & mainstream radio has done a damn good job of feeding us garbage, probably since Cobains death, ive been waiting a long time for something to come around & still waiting, eventually it will i would think, but til then, it sucks

As far as I understand The Mars Volta has been doing rather well and I'd consider them one of the best bands of the 00's. Of course I love Shinedown(most don't but then again most haven't heard Lady So Devine) and Wolfmother is going to be huge.

    Bands of the 00s?

Well, a few of these maybe started in the late 90s, but have released most of their stuff in the 00s.

    Modest Mouse
    System Of A Down
    Queens Of The Stone Age
    The Mars Volta

and also, those Canadian indie bands are getting it on, like:
    Wolf Parade
    Arcade Fire

So, I dont think it's a desert right now, but that is completely a matter of taste, really.

    Peace

no. i think what the white male rat is saying is that there aren't any true rock bands. as in heavy/hard rock. i love alternative - broken social scene, modest mouse, death cab - but i don't see these as "rock" bands. well maybe they are what rock bands have become but that's a whole other story.

but, there's a thread on here about a band called Black Mountain http://forums.pearljam.com/showthread.php?t=158864&highlight=black+mountain. check them out if you want to hear some great 70's sounding guitar rock. i just picked it up last week and it's great. it's a complete hybrid of sound pulling from so many different classic rock bands...but sounds like Beck produced it.

it's a refreshing listen if you will.
