Metal Getting Some Notice????

yeah so when does metal ever get its due, but this past year and up to now there have been some outstanding music that has been released....

Mastodon, In Flames, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, All that Remains....and im sure im missing some more but the names i listed have put out some of their best material in years

ive seen Mastodon get some praise and even listed in alot of top 10 albums of the year and was shocked by this but there was some other good stuff in 2006 and up to now that should have got some more notice

agree...disagree...im sure there are more bands to add

    mrwalkerb, if you don't like metal then stay out of a metal thread please. Just because bands are not from seattle and are from the nineties doen't mean you can't like them..you really should open your ears and that lame ass reviewer should too...now go listen to your nonstop play of PJ a little bit more k thx.

    DEP are amazing! They put together some of the most wicked tunes! check out unretrofied by them .. very psychodelic song

    Nevermore is badass too!

    Really nice to see metal getting some more exposure. Seeing Lamb of God play Pathetic on Conan was pretty cool. Also, check out Into Eternity. They have a few albums out now, IMO they are pretty good.

    That's awesome, do you mind if I get this on a t-shirt? holy shit man step off, so because I was passing along something I thought was funny and that my friends who like metal thought was funny you know me. Thanks (thx? what are you a 16 year old girl?) a ton for completely stereotyping me without any sort of base. Naturally since I'm on here I think nothing but "grunge" music is good, because I haven't you know started threads praising bands you've never heard of or anything. I forgot Springsteen, The Hold Steady, Rheostatics and The New Pornographers, Bowie, The Clash, Westerberg and dozens of other bands I talk about here were early Nineties Seattle bands. Lighten up man, shit.

    edit-By the way I have listened to all those bands you mentioned, just to further trivialize any point you think you had.

    A lot of magizines concider some Pearl Jam songs metal, seems a bit weird. For example i picked up a mag and alive was rated number 79 in the greatest metal songs of all time.

    Bottom line...HEAVY METAL ROCKS!!!!!! And who ever wrote that article is a fuck. Even Hendrix was concidered metal.

    Good to see Slayer win a grammy :)

    I saw Megadeth live at The Horden last year and it was one of the best concerts of my life, fukin awsome!

    I loooooooooove Nevermore!! I've yet to see them live but they're certainly one of few on my 'to see' list.

    Also liking Children of Bodom at the mo too... cheese-tastic!

    I think the popularity of metal comes and goes. It seems to be on a bit of an upturn now. For the most part the underground has been solid for a long time. I don't think many of the bands care much about "pop" sucess. they saw what happened to metallica when they became accesable and no one in their right mind wants to make music that bad ever again :)

    A close friend of mine is way way into metal. I cant stand most of it. just a bunch of noise as most of the musicians in the bands just play over each other to get the loudest fastest sound possible. which is really sad cause some of the guys are really talented. I think the lead singer from trivium hit it on the head when he admitted that it takes zero talent to go on stage and just scream your head off.

    Well, thats cos Trivium aren't all that good (but then again where's my band!) It takes him zero talent to get on stage, unlike someone like Mikael Akerfeldt who just completely oozes with talent its unreal! It just depends on what type of metal you listen to. I love Opeth, Katatonia, Nevermore etc but I cannot stand the likes of Cannibal Corpse or Immortal... they are (for me) completely unlistenable.

    OPETH kicks ass...i totally forgot to list them...good choice and another one i left off is Static X, another good and unique band


    as far as Trivium there sophmore album should of been a Metallica cover band album because they ripped off everything about them from the younger years and if he is making comments like it dont take talent to be in a metal band then he just needs to quit now

    and to a poster before who said As I Lay Dying, they are amazing live!!!!
