the REAL 'use your illusion'

ok, not really. but i think the guns'n'roses albums are synonymous with the bloated hubris of followup albums... on par with oasis's 'be here now.' the albums have some truly amazing songs, but there is also a LOT of filler in there. so if you were in charge and had to pare these bad boys down to one disc, how would you do it?
i'd post my own, but i'll be honest: i've never heard all of both. i can't get through them. it's too much. so i'm hoping for some tips on the highlights so i can make my own manageable version...

They actually came out with a single disc version you can find here: http://www.amazon.com/Use-Your-Illusion-Guns-Nroses/dp/B00000DAHK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4/104-6016660-3941530?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1190434291&sr=8-4
I tend to like the more epic songs so I couldn't make an 80 minute version very easily, but off the top of my head it would have to include:
Live and Let Die
November Rain
Don't Damn Me
Dead Horse
Coma
Civil War
Yesterdays
Breakdown
Pretty Tied Up
Locomotive
Estranged
i've tried listening to them on multiple occasions and there's just so much filler i can't wrap my head around it. though that one on amazon looks pretty crappy.
"Behave like rock stars - not like the President." (live - Noblesville, IN - 8/17/98)
--Ed
"Yeah, I was gonna learn to play it (Breath) but somebody slipped me a bottle of viagra and was busy doing something else six times last night" (live - New York, NY - 9/10/98)
--Ed
Anyway, why don't you listen through them and eliminate the songs that don't have some badass part. I think you will find that, even with the weaker songs, most of the songs will stay.
civil war
live and let die
dont damn me
the garden
dont cry (original)
14 years
yesterdays
you could be mine
november rain
dead horse
estranged
SOLID ALBUM
you dont get, get in the ring, but i think we've all had enough of that song. and no knockin on heavens door.
Dust N Bones
Live and Let Die
Don't Cry (Original)
Perfect Crime
November Rain
Double Talkin Jive
Locomotive
Dead Horse
Estranged
You Could Be Mine
Coma
No idea how long that is... but it's a damn good record.:p
Right Next Door To Hell
Dust 'n' Bones
Civil War
Pretty Tied Up
14 Years
November Rain
Live And Let Die
Estranged
Don't Cry
Knockin' On Heaven's Door
Estranged
Breakdown
Locomotive
Don't Damn Me
Dust N Bones
Civil War
Coma
November Rain
Dead Horse
Also from the UYI sessions I'd nominate Crash Diet as one kick ass song.
right next door to hell
dust & bones
don't cry
perfect crime
november rain
coma
civil war
estranged
you could be mine
dead horse
yesterdays
14 Years
Double talkin' jive
and yes Crash Diet is a fucking amazing song!!
Shadow of You Love is okay too.
Edit: And do you think we can get Year Zero down to an EP?
Estranged
Civil War
Breakdown
Locomotive
November Rain
Coma
Dust N' Bones
14 Years
Yesterdays
Dead Horse
Good stuff.
Yeah that was the edited version someone mentioned earlier, there were no swear words on that one so it could be sold at places like Wal Mart.
McCartney song = Dylan Song
Don't Cry = Don't Cry (alt)
November Rain = Estranged
And I love the sound of that band on those albums. Just so timeless. I remember the first time I heard some of those songs they felt like songs I had known forever, yet I never really get tired of them.
i haven't listened to either in years, but how can UYI1 be crap with dust 'n' bones, live and let die, don't cry, double talkin' jive, november rain, the garden, dead horse AND coma on it? just my opinion.
