And the most disappointing album of the year so far is...

Rilo Kiley's "Under the Blacklight"
Ugh... what the fuck were they thinking? Keep in mind that I absolutely love this band and everything that they had done up until now.
It's actually quite heartbreaking the more I think about it :(
I can't be the only one that feels this way. Any true fan of the band has to question this "direction" or whatever you want to call it. They must be trying to win over new fans that will have no clue what they are truly capable of.
I was initially a little disappointed with the New Pornographers' latest, but after this that sounds like another masterpiece.
Current score:
Neko +1
Jenny -1

signed,
Not a hip-hop fan.
Riight.
Exactly what I was going to say.
and all hip hop albums bad...hmmmm....can't say i agree there either, blackalicious' blazing arrow is AMAZING
greatest disappointment? the bands i like have put out great albums this year, but the industry is rife with shit, it'd be like searching through a giant mountain of shit looking for a piece of shit.
See These Bones
Can you see me now
I am myself
Like you somehow
I'll ride the wave
Where it takes me
I'll hold the pain
Release me
This has to be a joke...were they only selling 6 copies in your town? Get a good night's sleep, grab a bagel, and stroll in to buy it. By the way, I cast my vote for either Chris Cornell or Nine Inch Nails.
Oops! Almost forgot about the premise of the thread. I'm debating whether I'll buy the new Rilo Kiley. Thus far I only own More Adventurous and Jenny's solo album. I adore quite a few of the songs on the former, and I like Rabbit Fur Coat even more. I'm not sure though if I'm interested in the band overall. They seem a little too "indie" pop/rock for my tastes, though trust me, I have no problem with "indie" bands over all (though I hate the term and try not to use it without the quotations).
I thought it was one of the better albums this year with the perfect start of the album with Dooms day Clock.
Even though I love them RUSH's Snakes and Arrows album was much more of a dissapointment than anything else. At the same time they gave THE best Rush show I've ever seen back in June and I've seen everyone of them except one dating back to g under p.
Peace

I have listened to vapor trails, 2112, snakes and arrows and moving pictures quite a lot... i dont think snakes is the best album but it isn't that bad?
cant wait to see them in october!
Amen
I also have to agree with pjl44, NIN's Year Zero was a disappointment for me, atleast from the stand point of how much hype I read and heard from people about how good it was. There are not that many songs that stand out as being really good, a few others that are listenable but forgetable, and then there are a few that are skip worthy. I don't know what he was thinking with his vocal delivery on this album but he goes from sounding like an asthmatic to having the hiccups. The music seems to lack depth to me and I'm getting tired of hearing the same lyrics reused. That being said, I'll take Year Zero over that pile of trash that Manson put out. I wasn't disappointed with that though because I stopped expecting anything good from Manson since Mechanical Animals.
I loved VT but S&A just seem to have the same pace and rythhm. VT was more heavy and rocking that tour's show was great but man they put it all together on this S&A Tour. Also they came up with THE best intro to Tom Sawyer I've seen to date.
As long as this band's been around they can still draw a crowd must have been 25 thou or more in W. Palm Beach, FL and in Bristoe, VA.
You'll have some fun for sure.
Peace

"Call me Ishmael. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world." Herman Melville : Moby Dick
It's not worse than lullabies. But it is disapointing in the sense that I fear that qotsa's best days are behind them.
well i have to disagree with you. i think lullabies is an awesome album.

agreed... I liked the James Bond song and that was about it.
that's what i was going to post. their first album was so quirky and catchy, but 'some loud thunder' just seemed to lack strong songs. i listened to it a few times and couldn't find anything as engaging as the most mediocre on their debut.
You seem to not like hip-hop, which is fine. I'm not a huge fan either.
But to say that all hip-hop albums fall under the category of "Most disappointing album of the year so far..." means you had some sort of high expectations for all hip hop albums and you were severely disappointed by them all.
Eddie: I don't know whose idea it was but it was turned down.
Ty...come on man...there are some great hip-hop albums out there. Are you against the genre in general or just today's hip-hop?

I'm with ya. Tori's last 2 albums have been so bad that i don't even buy anything new by her. I know artists like to grow and change, but why mess with something so perfect? She was my fav after pj too. Bummer.
LULLABIES IS THE SHIT, BTW, IMHO, U CRAZY?
oh yeah, the most dissapointing album.....not that i had any huge hope for it... but libertad sucks. and what else..
the yeah yeah yeahs ep is exceeding any ep hopes ive ever had.
