Anyone else going to this show? I know it's a long shot. No one ever responds to my posts about the shows I'm going to...lol. But surely there has to be someone around here as excited as I am for this show. I've never seen Neko solo, but I have seen Rufus three times, and he is amazing every time. He is awesome. :D

I was thinking about making the trip to Nashville yesterday to see the concert but decided against it. A weekday show plus me already throwing down cash for a couple of concerts this month and I am in big time savings mode right now due to buying a place. I'll be seeing Neko in October with the New Pornographers. I'm really lookin forward to that.

  • I saw Rufus & Neko at the Charlottesville Pavilion in VA. I went for Neko since I've never listened to Rufus before (and probably never will again). Neko was amazing. I was completely blown away. Her voice was just awesome. Rufus was okay. His set was entertaining and interesting, but his music was just meh. I kept drawing comparisons to Jeff Buckley (not intentionally). His covers were all good (except Hallelujah). A Fine Frenzy, the first opener, were pretty good too. I wouldn't mind hearing some more of their songs.

wow, that is the first time i've *ever* heard someone describe rufus as "meh"!!! maybe if you had been more familiar with his music before the show, you would have been appropriately blown away. :D
  • I don't know. I wasn't familar with Dan Sartain or A Fine Frenzy and I still thought both of them were terrific, especially Dan Sartain (opened for The White Stripes) who I thought was superb. I actually thought the instrumentation throughout Rufus' set was great, the show was entertaining (how could it not be at least interesting?), and while his vocals were good, they never really knocked my socks off. The lyrics were okay, nothing really special to me. Like I said before, I kept thinking of Jeff Buckley unintentionally, though the two are similar. Rufus just isn't my cup o' tea.
