y'know, I was prepared to give them a chance (as I do with all bands) and ignore the stereotypical "emo sucks" thoughts. But I saw them play at Leeds festival the same day PJ were playing, and by jaysis they were awful. Music was boring, but their attitude sucked. Gerard wouldn't stfu about how depressed all his fans were, how its not good to kill yerself etc... way to ruin a good drink on a nice summers day!!

That was dreadfull, actually having to stand there through a full set of utter crap so I could be at the front for Pearl Jam. I was still on a high from Slayer though, they rocked.

I'd rather peel off all my skin and have a bath in vinegar than listen to MCR
Agreed
They're awful.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
My daughter likes them, so because of her I've seen them 3x so far, and have 2 shows planned in May. I don't listen to them on my own, but I liked the shows - they play well, and Gerrard has plenty of stage presence. I'd never really heard them until I went to the show and the first thing that came to me immediately was the Queen influence.
One of the shows is a GA show and she wants to get there early to have a shot at front row, but once we go in, she can stay up front, but I'll stay in the back, so as not to take up a front row spot from some youngster who really wants it.
R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.

R.i.p. Black Tail (cat) - Sept. 20, 2008
i'm really into mcr. have seen them on 4 seperate occasions while touring in support of each of their records and they've never failed to put on an awesome show. in fact, i'm really excited about seeing them in 2 weeks. also, gerard's comic book line, "the umbrella academy", is pretty decent.
it should be a crime to like MCR period . . . . to each his own i guess
agreed

I never had the guts to attend any MCR shows in the Seattle Area because, I hate the band's "teenybopper/trendy college boy/ girl fanbase". I like the idea of making MCR a guilty pleasure of mine to listen to when I am bored as hell. I should be thankful that I do not own any MCR cds. How would you react if, I said, that Mike McCready listens to MCR songs?

You know they take a lot of shit and don't deserve it. I took my nephew to their show, and I'm 25, and had a good time. None of the younger kids really cared about anyone older being their either, so they had a good respectful fan base, they have a really good lead guitarist, and Gerard has a hell of a stage presence. They're going to be around for a while. They've continually built themselves up a bit more with each album. I'll pop in a cd every once in a while when I want something easy to listen to. They're really not that bad at all.
That being said, go and listen to Sunny Day Real Estate and Embrace. Great bands.
YES YES YES! real emo is awesome. Also try Rites of Spring if you haven't. Guy from Fugazi's first band. Their debut is one of my favourite albums ever.
Other emo that puts MCR and all the shite that gets called emo these days but isn't :
Saetia
Pageninetynine
Rain
One Last Wish
Happy Go Licky
Indian Summer

Ain't gonna be any middle anymore.
I don't like MCR, but i think they are better then some of the other bands out there that they get grouped with.
But by all means to each their own. If you like them that is cool.
