The only Pearl Jam album at no 63 I'm surprised you aint had any abuse yet.;)
I find Slint's Spiderland to be highly overated round these parts though, I aint feeling that one.
Quick question how many Mountain Goats albums is there? I recently picked up The Sunset Tree which I'm liking and The Coroner's Gambit which I also enjoyed.

nice list Echoes. it's good to see Pavement and GBV get some recogntion.

In the Aeroplane is one damn fine album.

Vitalogy is the only PJ record I'd put on one of my lists like that too. Good call.

    1. Interesting to see Aeroplane up that high.
    2. Surprised to see Vitology on the list
    3. Sounds like I need to check out Matthew Good
    4. I love Emergency and I
    5. Any list with Blood on the Tracks on it is guaranteed to be good
    6. I have difficulty getting thru a full Mercyful Fate CD.

So, yeah, good stuff. I put a few off there on my 'check out' list.

You really do. "Beautiful Midnight" and "Underdogs" are great places to start. Two of the greatest rock records ever made in my opinion. So many people write him off because MGB had a few tunes on the radio but it's not at all what he's about. MGB worst songs usually ended up on the radio with a few exceptions.

About 20 of those albums would make my list...but ranking them would be fucking hard. What criteria did you use to rank your albums ?

  • Other than the fact that it took you till 51 to put the only Smashing Pumpkins album up that you included, it's great ;)

edit: It looks like you used the 'one album per band' rule which i like. simples things out.

SD might have been my pick for the pumpkins' too, but it would've been in the top 10 at least (for me).

Yes, Animals is the best Floyd Record :D

but what, no Audioslave, Echoes? :p

Sorry, just don't dig any other Pumpkins albums. Adore has some good part and I guess there was maybe an albums worth of solid stuff on MCAITS, but hey, I rarely even listen to SD anymore. I just really used to like it.

    Animals is an amazing record.

    1. It levelled me when I first heard it. I heard On Avery Island first and it almost put me off them, so many years ago
    2. Hey, I used to really like Pearl Jam. Haven't listened since I saw a concert in september, but Vitalogy is classic
    3. You do. One of the best songwriters EVER.
    4. Words I never thought I would see here
    5. Great album
    6. I love Melissa so much. Diamonds voice is a challeng sometimes, but it is something I can live with. The riffs are just so killer.

viggs: I just picked which albums I like hearing more, I guess. I tried to keep influence and all that out of it, hence no miles davis or beach boys or the million other beatles album I don't listen to. The whole thing took me ~ a week at work

    Interesting list.

I definitely feel like popping in Aeroplane again for another round. Excellent CD, but I only just bought it and definitely havent had the time to fully digest it.

I especially liked your nods to Zappa, Ben Folds and The Weakerthans. Maybe someday I'll be ambitious enough to do a top 50 or something.....

there's always room for more, so why not a top 100?

Aeroplane floored me too. Just absoluetly floored me. Track by track I just fell deeper into the rabbit hole or Mangums' dreams. Really one of the best albums ever. Definitely deserving of the top spot.

I take it you don't listen to much hip-hop. I only saw NWA (I don't care for them) and Public Enemy (Fear of a Black Planet is great, btw). There's a lot out there and there's a lot that is good. I'm not gonna tell you that you should have this band or that album on your list because I do think your list is decent. But you should check out A Tribe Called Quest if you haven't heard their shit and also anything from MF Doom a.k.a. Viktor Vaughn a.k.a. King Geedorah.

    Things that surprised me......

Matthew Good Band at number 3
    Slayer
    Ben Folds Five
    Deep Purple

glad to see Destroyer on there twice

and Olivia Tremor Control- "Dusk at Cubist Castle" makes me happy.

tis a good list, but not at all how my own would look...Abbey Road is your fav Beatles album?
The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!

And I won't make the same mistakes
    (Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
    (And function)
    Function is the key

Matt Good is probably my favourite artist ever.I say this with no shame or anything, because I am just in love with all his stuff.

Reign in Blood is such a great album, I'd feel bad if I didn't include it. There are maybe 2 or 3 weak songs on the whole thing.

Ben Folds is great too. His debut is his strongest, or in any case it is the one I like the most. Great summer album, great songs on it, and he is an amazing pianist.

What can I say, I have a huge weak spot for "Lazy" and "Space Truckin'" And "Maybe I'm A Leo." Too bad the rest of the album is overshadowed by Smoke On The Water.

Destroyer's great. I'm undecided on Rubies, so for simplicities sake I kept all 2k6 albums off the list.

depopulationINC: Yes it is. It is also the only one I listen to regularily. If this was more a list based on influence and general music consensus, then you would probably see more Beatles on it, but this is the list of albums I really like and listen to a lot, so only Abbey Road (for now)
