Ed's voice in the studio.........

Hmm, kinda thinking his voice is sounding too low in the mix these days, especially Avacado...

....sat listening to Vitalogy at the moment and it sounds so powerful and up front....

    certain songs on Avacado he sounds incredible, Life Wasted, Comatose, Big Wave, much better than Riot Act, I get chills everytime I listen to Vitalogy, no one could touch Eddie back then, he had so much rage and anger then

    I don't think that his voice is too low in the mix, per se. His voice has changed, and so have the mixes of their last few records. Vitalogy, and to a lesser extent Vs, have a real "mid-rangey" sound; there's not a lot of bass front and center in the mix, and the whole thing feels sort of ragged. Eddie had a great baritone back then, but he had more of a range (and he used it), and it gelled a little better with the way they were playing...

    These days, his voice mostly hangs out in his lower registers. Add to that the bottom heavy sound of Matt Cameron's toms and deep snare drum, and the fact that the last couple albums have more of an open, live sound to them, and you get an effect that is probably better for Eddie's current voice, but arguably not as fun to listen to as the old stuff. But just imagine--if they mixed Avocado with an emphasis on the mid-range, and here's Ed with his, uh, "more mature" voice, and it would really get lost in there; they're doing the best with what they've got, I think...
