While they produced what turned out to be their masterpiece a year previously what a letdown "Smiley Smile" by the beach boys is or was now and at the time.
Wilson was clearly in destress and Pepper had knocked him for six.
They are too many ditties that sound like work in progress songs( and alot of song to be done on them).

The sessions for this album ended in May 1967, before the release of Sgt Pepper. But the release of Strawberry Fields Forever did affect Wilson badly.
