Dream Theater SUCKS!

They have a lot of talent. But with the exception of Pull Me Under, their songs do nothing for me. They show off their talent, and occasionally hit on some nice melodies, but there's no passion. It like Metallica one minute, but without the angst, and then like Journey the next minute, but without the feeling that it's a summer night and your stone in love.

Dream Theater sucks.

Pretty much sums up my opinion of this band over the years: Brilliant musicians, but terrible fucking songwriters.

I would much rather listen to a band with very little technical ability that can write a great lyric or melody.
The Man has a branch office in each of our brains, his corporate emblem is a white albatross, each local rep has a cover known as the Ego, and their mission in this world is Bad Shit.

  • Eh, they're decent. They'd be better if they had a different singer, though. I do like the A Change Of Seasons CD, however.

With a different singer, or as an instrumental rock/fusion group I'd love them.

i can see where youre coming from but they certainly dont suck. theyre an amazing band. i can agree with you to some degree that they make some music that can seem very technical yet uninspired. sometimes the music can be too complicated for people liking. i personally love technical music but really love it more when a band has feeling. i think that is whats keeping them from being one of the greatest bands of all time. Images and Words and Metropolis pt2 is fucking awesome though

I only have a random mix of stuff... and opinions from people who saw them at Graspop last year. IMO, their heavier stuff is great, but their slower stuff drags on a bit. Apparently they're fantastic live, though.

It's like going to see an incarnation of G3

you're not really there for good songs you're there to see petrucci and co embarass the lot of ourselves that pretend to "play instruments" :D

Agree. Though I appreciate some of their early work, they just grew to be virtuosos high on masturbation.

I don't think it would be boring if there was passion. I don't go see Pearl Jam to hear the mistakes, i go for the passion. I can't really comment on Dream Theater but I know my guitar playing friend really like Petrucci. He is more in the technical side of music.

They definitely ARE flawless live. But I find their music to be musical masturbation.

And the first time I saw LaBrie I thought it was Fabio on stage.

I have tried to get into them for years since I have a bunch of friends who like them, but I just can't.

theres no way you can say they suck though, if you see them live youll just be like "fuck! look at em!!" you can watch each member (except james) for the whole concert and be amazed. you at least have to appreciate them
