"It doesn't have to be loud, to be heavy."

PJ-lyrics and vibe make them as heavy as anybody imo

Led Zeppelin-layer upon layer of goodness

Tool-the music is dense as fuck, and they keep alot goin on for just 4 musicians

I would agree with some PJ stuff actually. Why Go for instance.

I also find bands like Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor to be heavy, in a non-traditional sense. Dense layers of hypnotic music.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

I saw Nick Oliveri with an acoustic guitar supporting Mark Lanegan. That fits the bill. My friend said to me after, 'That was as about as acoustic as a kick in the balls.'

from a review of Wintersleep's new album:

"...music that's both head smashingly heavy and heart-achingly delicate." :)
