just listened to Tangerine for the first time in awhile... and it reminded me how much this album is my favorite work by the Mighty Zep. all the songs just flow together so well, the production doesn't sound dated, and what more can I say... it's the greatest.

just saying!

This definitely fits into the special interest category of the bleedin' obvious !!

Bron-yr Aur Stmp an HAt's Off to Roy Harper are 2 of my fav songs.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

The first Zep album that I owned. Bought it the day after seeing The Song Remains The Same, the first time I'd ever heard Led Zeppelin. Remember going into the record shop and having the choice of the first 4 albums. I think I went for 3 because it had the best sleeve, loved the revolving section with all the little windows (I was an impressionable 14 year old, give me a break!).
As for the music, I've got to be honest and say it didn't do it for me at first. At the time I needed hard rock, guitar riffs and solos and I just wasn't ready for the beauty of Tangerine, That's The Way and Gallows Pole. As I got older my love for this album grew and I would now put it alongside Physical Graffiti, as their finest work.
I would call it Zeppelin's "No Code", would be near the top of most hard core fans list but come way down in the casual fans top ten.

I was going to reply but these words put it perfectly. Those three songs. Yep...and a perfect comparison with No Code.

    Nothing more to say.

Quite the underrated album in my opinion. Most people think of II, Zoso and Physical Graffiti when they think of Zep.
    32 shows and counting...
  • In my opinion, that's their best album. It was their most original, which is why it's their most overlooked. Most people want comfort food.

I don't think those albums were overlooked. Just sub-par.

Hmm? Presence had Achilles Last Stand, absolutely one of THE best songs (ever!) and In Through the Out Door had In The Evening, but other than that there's really not anything great about either of these two (in my opinion).

For me it's probably a tie between II, III and Houses of the Holy although I still listen to III the most of those 3. IV is overplayed (still great though), Physical Graffiti is too spotty...great in some parts, meh in others. I think with LZ it's just too tough to pick an absolute favorite.

Listened for the first time today. It's better than IV in my opinion. And it also has the best art :)
