"Why would they come to our concert just to boo us?" -Lisa Simpson
So why be satisfied?
I just feel that, in my opinion, there hasn't been a decent album in the genre since around '94.
Don't think there's been a truely great album since Nas' Illmatic & Wu-Tang Clan's debut.
As for Eric B & Rakim, true innovators. Rakim has the smoothest voice & great use of lyrics.

Untrue. You just need to look past the mainstream and there is some amazing stuff. Firstly, there were some truly great albums from the first wave of Wu solo records, GZA's Liquid Swords and ODB's Return to the 36 chambers are classics. Ghostface Killah has also had a very consistent run of excellent solo albums. Stuff like Aesop Rock, Black Star, Blackalicious, Deltron 3030, Hieroglyphics is excellent, not to mention Jurassic 5. Don't write the genre off yet
