did you know that james blunt's cd sold more than coldplay? i read that in parade magazine this weekend.

i only know of 1 song, i've seen him on vh-1....this one grew on me...

"You're Beautiful"

My life is brilliant.

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Flying high, [ - video/radio edited version]
Fucking high, [ - CD version]
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

I'm sorry, but I find it utterly dreadful. I never cease to be amazed at what takes off musically.

    yeah.
    my MOM really likes it.

    No lie.
    I'd heard the damn single.
She comes home the other day and throws it in.

She's like, "nick, listen to THIS ..."
she gets this goober ass smile on her face ... and starts kind've dancing to it ... she's like "well, what do you think?"

    i'm like ... uh ...

well ... his name is BLUNT ... that counts for something ? !?! ?

    argh.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

    BLAH!!
I hate his voice. I cant stand it. His songs are kinda repetative and boring (IMO)

I think that pretty much sums up my thoughts about that Blunt guy. But wait no it's that thing about his voice too, I actually thinks he sings like a goat.

It seems like he isn't that great live either, he got 0/5 when he visited sweden. That made me laugh a bit :D

    Peace

    LOL!!!

    My daughter just bought it!!!!

It's not that bad, pretty darn mellow and not bad listening if your in the Barry Manilow kind of mood. Which I guess I can admit happens to me every once in a while. (no, I don't actually own any Barry Manilow)

  • I think James Blunt lacks substance from what I've heard from him. After Keane and Snow Patrol came big, alot of people have decided on the formula of release a song targetted at women, and it will sell. The funny thing is, is I like Keane and Snow Patrol, I find there's more to their songs than that.

Keane bore the shit out of me personally, but i think they are a bit better than Blunt, i dont mind Spitting Games by Snow Patrol, but i think thats the only song i've heard that i like.

can't stand keane either... but i do like snow patrol and coldplay...

the thing with james blunt is that he's not very original... i think i did a bit of blunt bashing before but i'd rather listen to him than most of the other pop crap on the radio if i can't avoid it... i just think his songs all sound the same, are very safe and radio-friendly and lack substance - obviously, that's why he's big...

i heard one of his songs the other day ("higher"??) and the intro sounds like "the drugs don't work"... to me, richard ashcroft can pull it off and james blunt can't - simple as that, personal preference...

i like the occasional pop-oriented singer/songwriter but i'm looking for some depth and an artist who puts everything he's got into his music - i'm just not getting this kind of vibe from james blunt at all...

well thats the thing isnt it, you can only hear the same thing done so many times before its starts to sound bland, without sentiment and dull.
to be fair to Snow Patrol i have only heard two songs by them:) as for Keane i've heard the whole album and dont want to experience it again.

Yep. It's time for Captain Beefheart to make a comeback. I bet he could do a good cover. He might change some of the lyrics though:

    My squid is luminous.
    My love is bulbous.
I saw an ant bee boogie-in.
    Of that I'm serious.
Jack rabbit smiled at me in the subway.
He was with a moonbeam jellyfish.
But I won't lose no china pig, hey,
    'Cause I've got a moustache.

You're fast and bulbous. You're fast and bulbous.
    Mascara snake, it's true.
I saw my hog in a bluejean smog,
    A boogaloogaloo,
    I'm a trout in Katmandu.

Yeah, she munched out of a bag,
    Polyethalene.
She could see from my dress I'm in drag,
    My underpants shining obscene.
    She's eating dough,
    Rockette Morton's eating laser beans,
But they share a tadpole that will swim in their dreams.

Big Joan is beautiful. Big Joan is beautiful.
her hands are small, it's true.
I saw the blimp with a pachuco shrimp,
    Bill's corpse was turning blue.
And his wife knew what to do.

Hair pie cuticle, hair pie cuticle ....

yeah when he writes a glorious put-down song like Don't think twice it's alright or sooner or later one of us must know) by Dylan, THEN I'll be interested

Oh. My. God, I don't know much beefheart so I don't know if youve put some of his lyrics to that tune but if not and you came up with them by yourself, please please please release that song, it is goddamn poetry :D
