90's song??????

help me find a song. ok i heard this song in the early to mid 90's. no later than 97 for sure. it sounded kinda like tom petty. but im 99% sure it wasnt him. anyways the only thing i remember about the song is the lyric that made some mention of 'gay boys by a window' but that isnt the exact lyric. im pretty sure it was a 90's era song cause it was played on the modern rock station so i dont think its a classic rock track.

    i'm pretty good with 90s alternative anything but thats pretty much the vaguest description i've ever seen! have any luck yet?

    what's hilarious is that if you google "gay boys by a window" the only search result you get is this thread.

    the song just sounded like tom petty, it didnt sound like a certain tom petty song. and the lyrics made mention of gay boys, but i dont remember the exact lyric. the best thing to look at so far is other radio releases by cracker.

    if the song doesnt mention anything about gays, its obviously not the song.

    I have thought and thought about this, but when I google the bit you gave me I get nothing. I did get a best of 90's collection from Time life to pop up.
    Was the band a one or 2 hit wonder you think?
    Also, do you remember how recently you heard the song? If you can pull up the stations webpage it may be listed in their playlist. It's usually 400-500 songs or so.

    I was thinking "the way" by fastball- but that doesn't sound Tom Pettyish.

    In regards to Cracker- the only other radio hit I'm aware they had was "I hate my Generation" but the song has no mention of the lyrics you mentioned.

    but tell us your music knowledge . i mean can we rule out say rem or oasis because you would immediately have recognized them? if so we can narrow it down to a 1 hit wonder or like toad the wet sprocket type

    i heard the song only once in the mid-early 90's. back then i listened to that station alot so i know most of the songs at the time. shortly after this i stopped listening to radio as much.

    white town, sponge, all that stuff i know about lots of those bands. thats why im thinking it was maybe cracker or some such. it was probably a band that had a previous hit, but the this single just never took off...

    Could it be Runaway Train by Soul Asylum? I thought that song was Petty for years before I learned the real artist.

    This reminds me of the first time I heard Low on the radio...I had no idea who the band was, or the name of the song for that matter. Hope we can find out about this one. I made a topic like this on another forum a year ago and I found out the answer pretty quickly. Of course, when you remember the lines "hey, hey, hey like getting stoned", that's not gonna be much of a challenge. :p

    yeah knowing the exact lyric would sure help rather than vaguely. there are quiet a few words that radio allowed back in the 90's for gays...
