What's Goin' On

i have played this circle (black is black) more times than any other LP

'make me wanna holla
throw up both my hands..'

peace
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

begin with his double CD best of

it's got all the classics on it, 34 tunes and no filler whatsoever

and you can make your mind up for which album to get from there

    my favs include
    Mercry Merct Me (The Ecology)
Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)
    Distant Lover
You're All I need to get by
I had it all once I gave it back

the man had maybe the most beautiful voice I have ever heard, what an artist
"I'm not suicidal, except when I drink. That's why we don't all drink at the same time, there'd be no-one alive to drive home..."

When I listen to some of the older R&B artists like Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and The Temptations, it makes me really sad to think about where R&B is now. Talk about a drastic decline in talent and soul.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

yeah I agree so much in fact it was the current state of what is being marketed as R&B that made me hesitant to check out some of teh old mowtown stuff

I know, that is so sad. I seen something on t.v. last night about that. Terrible thing to happen. Can't we all just get along?
We need Pearl Jam in Atlanta!!! 2006-2007

  • "Woo ah, mercy mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be, no no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows from the north and south and east
Woo mercy, mercy me, mercy father
Ah things ain't what they used to be, no no
Oil wasted on the ocean and upon our seas, fish full of mercury
    Ah oh mercy, mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be, no no
Radiation under ground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
    Oh mercy, mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be
    What about this overcrowded land
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
    Oh, na na...
    My sweet Lord... No
    My Lord... My sweet Lord"

Love that song--great song! :) Just had to share it! :)

And I agree, olderman, "What's Going On" --"Mother, Mother, everybody thinks we're wrong, but who are they to judge us, just because our hair is long...", yet another fabulous tune! :) Jeez, so is "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Can I Get A Witness", "Sexual Healing", "It Takes Two", baby...the man had talent, that's for sure! :)

    Yeah, peace--PLEASE!!!!! :)

I nabbed a decent collection of Mowtown tunes on this 4 disc set called "Hitsville USA" and I do believe there's 4 Marvin Gaye tunes on those discs--the only artist with 4 songs on the collection, I might add :). However, you get a taste of plenty of artist: The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Marvellettes, Martha And The Vandellas, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson...it's an excellent buy if you want a little taste of everything. :)

Thanks, olderman, I'm going to be playing me some Marvin tomorrow morning when I get up--start my day off right! :)

  • ooh, ooh, i'll bet you're wondering how i knew
'bout your plans to make me blue
with some other guy you knew before
between the two of us guys, you know i love you more
it took me by surprise, i must say
    when i found out yesterday

oh, yeah, i heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine
oh i heard it through the grapevine
and i'm just about to lose my mind
    honey, honey yeah

people say be prepared for what you see
son, ignore now what you hear
but i can't help but be confused
if it's true, please tell me dear
do you plan to let me go
for the other guy you loved before?

don't you know that i heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine
oh yeah i heard it through the grapevine
and i'm just about to lose my mind
    honey, honey yeah

i know a man ain't supposed to cry
but these tears i can't hold inside
losing you would end my life, you see
'cause you mean that much to me
you could have told me yourself
    that you love someone else

instead i heard it through the grapevine
not much longer would you be mine
baby i heard it through the grapevine
and i'm just about to lose my mind
    honey, honey yeah
