Great blues band. As with many outfits from the 60's, one of the main dudes went cuckoo and the band eventually went pop goes the weasel.

This band wrote "Black Magic Woman" later recorded by Santana. They also wrote "Oh Well" which is my favorite Mac song. Like the original BMW, it has a triple lead guitar sig. fuckin' awesome.

Written by peter green (he's the cuckoo, probably becuz he thought he talked to god)

I can’t help about the shape I’m in
I can’t sing, I ain’t pretty and my legs are thin
But don’t ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

Oh well

Now, when I talked to God I knew he’d understand
He said, stick by my side and I’ll be your guiding hand
But don’t ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

Oh well
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

This info is from Wikipedia and it is accurate.

In the late 1960s, Fleetwood Mac was a huge success among British blues groups. The band was started by guitarist Peter Green, who recruited the rhythm section of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers-drummer Mick Fleetwood and bass guitarist John McVie. Green himself had replaced departing member Eric Clapton as lead guitarist of the Bluesbreakers. During a recording session Green came up with the band's name, "Fleetwood Mac", which evoked an express train. Until McVie was convinced to join the band the group employed another bassist, Bob Brunning. Guitarist and Elmore James devotee Jeremy Spencer rounded out the line up. Their "full" name was now "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac featuring Jeremy Spencer" The band released two albums of Chicago based blues and released a single,"Black Magic Woman," which, when re-recorded by Santana, about a year later, became a U.S. hit. After their second album "Mr Wonderful", a third guitarist, 18 year old Danny Kirwan, was added to the lineup. After releasing two successful singles, the instrumental "Albatross" (which remains the group's only #1 hit in the UK), and the ballad "Man of the World" [#2 UK], they produced what is considered the nonpareil of their recorded blues work, Then Play On, though Spencer was for the most part absent from these recording sessions.

It's all so interesting. Kinda knew about the old Mac, totally didn't know about Black Magic Woman, and now I've got that song stuck in my head! :)

Peter Green was the shit, and doesn't get nearly enough credit for his contributions to rock music.
