Why?

As of August 1st, 2006, Y100Rocks.com will become part of WXPN (88.5 FM, member-supported public radio from the University of Pennsylvania). Y100Rocks.com will change its name to Y-Rock On XPN and will continue to operate as a full-time online radio station (at http://www.YRockOnXPN.org) and will be complemented by a radio show on WXPN 88.5 FM, Wednesday & Thursday nights from 8-11pm and Friday nights from 7-11pm, beginning August 30th. WXPN is not as concerned with ratings, research or consultants, as they are with the music. In fact, they're all about the music which is why this is such a perfect fit.

Man, I LOVE XPN. I listen on a booster station down here in Baltimore (WKHS). On the contrary, I cannot fucking stand Y100. I hope that they don't ruin WXPN.

i have loved both stations for as long as i have been listening to the radio. and while i will state that, at the time of its cessation, y100 was a pretty shitty station. but at its musical crest it was a good station, and it was, for me, the gateway to bands like the smashing pumpkins, pixies, alice in chains, radiohead, foo fighters, etc. so much good rock that came out of the 90s. and it was also how i became introduced to pearl jam. and i think that the y100 that will be integrated with wxpn will not necessarily be the y100 we saw at its nadir, you know.... the new found glory, the good charlotte, the staind, etc.
i think it will, for the most part, remain in keeping with wxpn's format.
    that's faarkokte.

Read the Q&A at Y100's website. Nothing will be ruined.

XPN is the greatest station there ever was and ever will be. Well except for: Ecchos, Kids Hour, and Fund Drives.

Things not to be missed: Saturday Blues with Johnny Miester, Grateful Dead Hour, Jam Nation, and the World Cafe.

Which is why I posted the link to "read more here." It's going to be very good.

I've still got my 'DRE bumper sticker hanging up in my office to remind me that we once had a great radio station in this city. Kinda makes me sad.

Y100, one of my all time favorite radio stations, went off the air 11 years ago today ending with Pearl Jam's "Alive"! Although I do think it was for the better now they can play whatever indie/alternative/modern rock songs they want on y-not radio (ynotradio.net). Wxpn is probably my favorite radio station in philly now.

I remember the day after my friend and I saw The Kings of Leon at the TLA. We discussed about y100 before the show and i proudly wore my 100 t-shirt to the show

I think if y100 were still on the radio it would be pretty much what radio 104.5 is now which i don't care for (once in a blue moon they'll play something i never heard before)

  • Holy fuck, 11 years! I remember I was playing cards in my friends basement when we heard and it was like everything stopped. Never listened to ynot but y100 was definitely the best radio station I've ever listened to. I find myself never really listening to FM radio anymore but when I do it's usually sports talk.... Or some 104.5 and then XPN can be a huge crapshoot.
