Neko Case - sort of alt-country
    Feist

and not solo, but Amy something who sings with the bands Stars & Broken Social Scene has a GREAT voice. Get Stars "Set Yourself On Fire", or just listen to the song "Calendar Girl", such a great voice. She is featured much more on Stars than BSS. Fiest sings on a few BSS songs as well.

If you are a BSS fan you will enjoy Stars. The girl from Stars is Amy, the one that sings on Ibi Dreams Of Pavement from the new BSS album(the best song on the album!). Her voice is just great, she shares vocals with some dude on Stars, but she gets a lot more time on there then she does on BSS.
  • I second the suggestion of Neko Case.
    Also check out Gillian Welch.
Using the word "methinks" in your message board posts doesn't make you look smart.
  • Try Lori Carson.....sang for the Golden Palominos in the mid 90's, and has some great solo stuff out. And Yo La Tengo, a 3 piece mostly instrumental but great stuff

I like that one a lot too. Too bad she's tried to turn into Britney Spears. I respected her.

Yeah, I was surprised to hear her on Top 40 too, but those tunes are pretty catchy...plus she still manages to throw in the word "Fuck" every now and again.
