They are making it available similar to Radiohead's way. You can pre-pay and get the link on November 1st (its only $5) or you can get it free. If
you pre-pay you get a higher quality download of either 320Kbps mp3 or Flac or you can go with 192Kbps mp3. If you get it free you get the 192Kbps.

sweet. I am all over this.
  • Who's Saul Williams? Any good? And leave it to Trent to make the downloading thing a bit better... seriously, $5.00 for a full flac album? Amazing!
If I could, think I would give in.

i already ordered it! $5 for new Saul Williams is a steal!
  • I think Trent has contributed some old, unused material from Fragile era for this record. I'll try to get the link where he talks about this. He was very involved creatively on this record, so I'm eager to hear it.
He had been looking for a singer to do stuff like this since the making of The Fragile. As many know, he is a big fan of certain hip-hop artists like Sade.

Thanks for these tracks Jane. I rarely visit the spiral forums anymore, so I don't find these things out myself.

I like Break, took a while to grow on me though. This song is wierd...

You are welcome. It is different isn't it - there's some Public Enemy sampling in the background of this one. This one is more Saul and less NIN, andthe words are pretty good. Saul's poetry is coming through. He (you know who I mean) leaked it on Echoing the Sound as well - I find I go there more than Spiral myself.

More awesomeness - on nin.com there's a link to a zip file that contains all (now three) leaked tracks, including a new one called Banged and Blown Through which will blow your mind, seriously. Its NIN, its Saul, its Trent, its fusion. (Click on 'what does this sound like')

I pre-ordered last week, got the link yesterday and downloaded it. very slick process. I hope to listen to this tomorrow.

So JaneNY, are the leaked tracks on NIN.com different that ones on the new CD? In other words, do I need to grab that?

No - they are some of the same ones - Trent let a few out a couple days early - Break, Tr(n)igger, and Banged and Blown Through.

So what does everyone think of the album?

I'm still unsure about it, though there are some fantastic tracks on there.

  • Now that I've listened to it a few times, I can honestly say that I'm very impressed. So far, my favorite tracks are Skin Of A Drum and Banged and Blown Through, although I woke up today with the melody from No One Ever Does going through my head and WTF! is really good. I guess I actually just like the whole thing as an album ... it has great pace. I really wasn't expecting to listen to anything spectacular this soon after In Rainbows, but this is a very pleasant surprise.

i've only listened to the album twice now, but i gotta say it's fantastic. right now my favourite is break, but dna's growing on me.
  • I'm really disappointed by this one...maybe it'll grow on me, but I expect great things from Saul, and this doesn't quite measure up to his previous stuff.

My feeling on it is it is a LOT of material, in an almost literary way. After getting it I have discovered that some of the lyrics are from some of Saul's poetry from Dead Emcee Scrolls (which I haven't read) (The Ritual and maybe some others) - makes me want to pick it up and read it. I have his self-titled album, but nothing else. I love the sound of it and I'm enjoying uncovering layers as I play it. I'm off to Ottawa today so I'm looking forward to having some peaceful listening time.
