Had this program on on public radio and it was talking about banjos, and I just can't tolerate the sound of them and turned the radio off. I hope PJ (esp. Ed) NEVER decided to play one (ukele is okay!).

So true ... he proves that a banjo in the right hands can be a rockin' thing.

Glad to see the reponses kicked off to this thread w/ that! So true. Beck uses banjos here and there as well.

You know, I just wasn't even thinking about Neil. I like that song! Maybe its just a kind of banjo. Like bluegrass, that I don't like. Okay I'll give Bela Fleck a listen maybe, but I'm not making any promises!

Yes, indeed. And it's not the size of the banjo, it's how you use it.
Thats a shame, I love bluegrass. Just such a fun feel to it. I love hearing all the picking and fingerwork that goes into a banjo. So damn impressive. My suggestion for Bela Fleck is his CD Outbound, or if you can get ahold of his live stuff, that is good too.
Amazing live show.

"I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version." - EV

Check out Doc Boggs. Old timey, mountain music. The white Robert Johnson, is a way he has been described. Some of the darkest, funkiest, haunting, powerful, spooky music ever.
William Elliot Whitmore--Amazing gothic, gospel, banjo, county blues.
