Who sings Alone?

My friend and I are having an argument about a song called Alone. We both have listened to it for years, but neither of us knows for sure who sings the version we have. He's positive it is Alice in Chains with Eddie Vedder contributing on vocals, but I disagree. I don't think it sounds like Vedder at all. Another friend always thought it was Scott Stapp (*shudders*) and Maynard James Keenan. I just never knew. It has always been categorized as unknown artist on my computer.

Does anyone know? It was originally written and performed by Tim Anderson of Downface, but there is another version around that has more than one vocalist. Here are the lyrics:

Alone

It's been a long day
At the bottom of the hill
They say she died of a broken heart
She told me I was living in the past
Drinking from a broken glass

I'm Alone
Now I turn to face the cold
I'm Alone
Now I turn to travel home

I walked down
to the other end today
Just to catch those last few rays
I held out my hands and slowly waved goodbye
I turn my eyes to the sky

Chorus

She'll come back to me

I held out my hands to the light and I watched it die
I know, that I was part to blame
But I've done my time
and I Never want to spend my life alone
No time to be void or save up on life. You got to spend it all.

The members of Downface all played in different bands before joining together in February of 1997. They met in Madison, WI through an ad placed in a local music store. With almost identical tastes in music the chemistry was there from the start. The music just flowed from there and Downface was born. The band balanced there time over the next year by learning covers as well as writing their own material. Wisconsin is a tough market, so they knew they would have to play some covers to get their foot in the door. In May of '98, they went into Capital Studios in Madison, Wisconsin to record their first cd, Confidence. The disk was released in July of that year. Since then the band has been playing in clubs in Madison, Milwaukee, and several other cities in southern Wisconsin. BAND_MEMBERS: Russ Gray - Drums Joe Violetto - Bass Rob Hammond - Rhythm Guitar Tim Anderson - Rhythm, Lead Guitars and Lead Vocals

    Album Description
You can tell who the bands influences are while listening to this cd. Bands such as Tool, Deftones, Alice N Chains, Creed, Limp Bizkit, and KoRn are all favorites of Downface. And like these bands, Downface plays intense, adrenaline filled music on their debut cd.

i dunno what the hell you guys are talking about....

the ORIGINAL version of that song was done by Layne Stanely, Ed Vedder, Jerry Cantrell,.... basically Alice with Ed.

however i do know that the most despicable of the nu wave shit-rock bands (including creed) covered it at some point... which seems to be what you guys are talking about.

100% sure... no question.. it's legendary... on second thought, this Downface you mentioned might have written it.. but i do know for certain that Alice and Ed did it way before those other fucks..
Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..

is it possible that there are crossed wires here.
i would imagine if layne and ed et al., did a cover of a song called ALONE it would be the one by Heart.

I hear the ticking of the clock
I'm lying here the room's pitch dark
I wonder where you are tonight
    No answer on the telephone
And the night goes by so very slow
Oh I hope that it won't end though
    Alone
Till now I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
You don't know how long I have wanted
to touch your lips and hold you tight, oh
You don't know how long I have waited
and I was going to tell you tonight
But the secret is still my own
and my love for you is still unknown
    Alone
Till now I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
    Alone, alone

i don't know i'm just throwing ideas out there.
    hear my name
    take a good look
    this could be the day
    hold my hand
    lie beside me
    i just need to say

Actually, its a Pearl Jam song:

Mmm, Wide awake and he shakes in a panic. Never woke up alone Ever before.
Had a woman long as he can remember. His to forget
    But he can't, he can't.
Out of bed and he dreams in the shower. She's standing naked, He's apologizing.
Reaches for her and the water turns red. Got woken up to be Burned, burned again.

Go it alone. You got it, so it goes.
Got his knees to his face, she can't take it any other way.

On the street he's walking wounded. Doesn't smile for the child at play.
Thoughts of suicide and alleviation. Anything to get his heart off of Nicole.

Go it alone. You got it so it goes.
Got his knees to his face...he can't take it for another day. Yeah, yeah.

Wide awake and he shakes in a panic. Never woke up alone
    Ever before.
Had his woman long as he can remember.
Tries to forget, but he can't... he can't....

you know there are times when i think no body does it better than eddie. i visualise so much of his work and a lot of the time it's right up my alley.
