So this album came out today. there seems to be quite a bit of hype about it. Lots of My Morning Jacket/ Shins comparisons.

I heard a couple songs on their website and thought they were good.

anyone pick up the album today?

Can anyone offer a review?

Thanks :)

Well i picked up the album this weekend and I like it quite a bit after the first listen. They are not breaking any new ground, but they do what they do well. I would use this equation to describe them Blend Built to Spill and My Morning Jacket together and lose the wild guitar solo's both of those bands can have and you get Band of Horses.

Again not groundbreaking stuff but some nice songs. The Funeral in particular stood out immediatly as a song i connected with.

If you area fan of built to spill, my morning jacket, or the shins they might be worth a shot.

I spoke with a girl who saw them at SXSW last week and she said they were quite good. I hope they tour i would like to check them out.

The hype is slowly starting to build. They got their good Pitchfork review which will put them on many peoples maps, plus if they played a good show at SXSW, they are destined to become the next big indie thing. I've heard two of their songs, one was "The Funeral", both were pretty good, but as you said, they aren't breaking any new ground. I may pick up the album at some point.
  • dont mean to be too scene..

and yes it is really good...

didn't the album come out like, last week??

I haven't been impressed enough to pick up the album yet. I mean, you need those wild guitar solos, right? ;)

Meh, after listening to samples I didn't really hear anything exciting. Most of the indie bands that people(and Pitchfork) seem to hype up are too bland for me. That is, except for Arcade Fire who I'm going to get their album real soon.

  • I saw Band of Horses play in December, didn't know anything about them or Carissa's Weird, and was really impressed. I got their tour EP from Sub Pop, really like it, and have been looking forward to the album coming out. I haven't bought the album yet... going to see them play at Neumo's in a couple weeks and I'll buy it there. But I like them a lot and really liked them live. So they have my stamp of approval. :)

i got the album today and i would agree with all of the above. the lead singer sounds like wayne from the flaming lips at times. i'm already on my 3rd listen today.
  • I like it. er, them.

This is by far the best album to come out so far in 2006. I have this for over a month now, and i listen to to it almost everyday. Yeah, I agree that its not something groundbreaking but if u take the album as a whole then its something really brilliant!

The band reminds me of My Morning Jacket meets The Shins.

    Just my personal opinion though.

If you havent got the album as of yet, I urge you to go out and get it. You wont be dissapointed!

Yeah, I just picked this album up. My friend has been friends with the two leads (ben and Matt) for 10 years and raved about them in late 2004 but I never got the chance to see them (they played a lot of Seattle shows). So, I picked up the new album this week and it is awesome...I can't get it out of my car cd player. The LA show is already sold out (and it's still two months off in late June). Glad I got my tickets. My friend said they are even better live than on CD.

I like this album, but the guy sounds exactly like the guy from my morning jacket.

I can only make it through a few songs before I get tired of his voice.

    its good in moderation, though.

  • they sound too much like MMJ for my liking

    and MMJ is way better

"Way better" in your opinion that is. To me, New Morning Jacket bores me to death. My friend loaned me their latest album since I had never heard them and I was expecting great things and was pretty much underwhelmed and dissapointed. I wanted to like them but could not get into them. Maybe too much hype? The first time I listened to BOH it was completely opposite. Yeah, they have similar voices, but so do the Shins and Built to Spilll. Vocal similarity means nothing...it's the music and how it moves you which matters to me. In my opinion, BOH's sound is much more vast, layered and the music conjures up so much imagery that I just don't get from MMJ.
