i get invites a few times a week from bands i've never heard of to be my friend based on my own likes. most of the time they are nothing spectacular, but once in a while i come across some worthy of my attention. i'm not trying to act as a street team or pimping these bands out or anything, just thought i'd share some new music, and i'd love to hear of anyone has any more to add!

alien showgirls (crazy gimmic but actually really good rock and roll)
the dreaming (christopher hall from stabbing westward's new band)
xeo3 (darker industrial sounding)
emptyself (think mellow a perfect circle/stabbing westward/that sorta sound!)
blue pearl music (old friend from high school...maybe i am pimping this one a little :)
long beach shortbus (yet another incarnation of the sublime/long beach dub allstars family tree)
My favorite Pearl Jam song: "Corporate Greed Boat Asshole Behind a Counter in the Oval Office"

I didn't discover either of these bands through myspace, but they both have myspace pages with good representations of their music if anyone wants to check them out.

Man Mountain Jr. - funky jam rock. Great live band. Imagine a mix of Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Sly and the Family Stone, and the Grateful Dead. They used to have a rapper, and when they had him, I would have said they had a heavy Tribe Called Quest influence as well.

Co-Pilot - Funk rock, but with a harder edge than Man Mountian. Awesome musicianship on all instruments.
  • I've come across a few.

KLUM - An eclectic band from somewhere in California (http://www.myspace.com/klum)
bob - An interesting shoegazer-type band from Iceland (http://www.myspace.com/bobisnow)
Beat the Devil - Weird band from NYC (http://www.myspace.com/devilnoise)
Walt Ribiero - A young contemprary classical composer who is very good (http://www.myspace.com/littlepesce)
Marche La Void - A nice dark band from Indonesia (http://www.myspace.com/lavoid)
I discovered the secret of life, but forgot to write it down.

just kinda discovered them and missed the dates they had in my area by a week. their new album is pretty good so far, and the video on their page for "typical" is very cool.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?
