Bono revealed major U2 news to writer Michka Assayas (author of the 2005 interview collection, Bono On Bono) yesterday, confirming long-standing rumors that the band has been working with producer Rick Rubin on its latest album. According to the fansite U2log.com, the group is hunkered down in London for a three-week session. Apparently, Bono & Co. have been doing most of their writing outside the studio, bringing only “extraordinary” songs to Rubin to record. Bono also told Assayas that U2 is planning to record a cover of a song by Scottish punk band the Skids with California punk trio Green Day (also in the studio cutting songs for a new disc). Two hot tips in one! How’s that for a Friday morning pick-me-up?

WAKE US UP -- U2 AND GREEN DAY SET TO RECORD TOGETHER

U2 and Green Day will get together soon to record a cover of The Skids'
song, "The Saints Are Coming." That's the word from Green Day's
    official web site:

    ----
We were asked by U2 to record the song with them to benefit Music
Rising (http://www.musicrising.org), an organization that replaces instruments
musicians lost in Hurricane Katrina's wake. One year later, the
devastation is still fresh in our minds, and we'd like to keep it in
    yours.
    ----

@U2 had heard rumors recently that U2 and Green Day would join forces
for something related to New Orleans -- specifically, a performance for
the Sept. 25th New Orleans Saints home game, the first NFL game to be
played in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. The note on GreenDay.com
doesn't say if this studio work is tied to that event ... though the
song title would seem to fit.

I just read about this. It should be cool.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.
