Where do I stay?

I live in Mass and my brother and I are going to both MSG shows. I want a decent hotel rate, but I know everything in Manhattan is expensive. We don't want to stay in Jersey b/c I don't think the subway runs to there. So we were thinking Queens/Brooklyn. Anyone know anywhere to stay relatively cheap there??

I appreciate any advice....

    Not a hotel, but it's a cheap, clean hostel that's a minute's walk away from MSG: http://deals.hotels.com/hotels-new-york/hotels-new-york/chelsea-star-hotel/

    I stayed in 2003 and met fans from England, Germany and Australia. It was a great experience.

    THe Path train runs into NYC from NJ. Hoboken is a happening town, but I do not know how much cheaper than NYC.
