"Pete Townshend Talked Eddie Vedder Out Of Retirement

Pearl Jam fans have The Who's Pete Townshend to thank for the Alive rockers' longevity - he talked frontman Eddie Vedder out of retiring.

Townshend claims Vedder contacted him in the early 1990s as he was considering walking away from rock music.

In an email to Rolling Stone, Townshend praises Vedder and his band for their performance at the recent Vh1 Rock Honors tribute show to The Who, adding, "It sounded amazing. Eddie seems to be very shiny these days. To think he nearly quit in 1993 and went back to some surfing beach.

"Lucky he came to speak to Uncle Pete. I told him - submit." "

People don't like hearing the truth sometimes.... about Ed, not Pete

    Have you ever seen them?

You wouldn't say that if you have, and you shouldn't be posting about what you have no clue about

he should have used the word "quit".

"retire" is reserved for people who spend their entire life working.

I'm not sure that i fully buy into all that.

Ed may have been down on the music biz at that time, but i highly doubt he would have given it all up, with or without Pete's help.

It had nothing to do with being down on the music business, it had to do with the instant stardom thrown upon them. Ed couldn’t even leave his house, people were trolling his drive way, he was receiving threats to his girlfriend. He didn’t like the spotlight and was ready to give it all up. He has said so himself before.

Oh and to the original poster, I didn't mean anything when I said it was a repeat thread. Like I said, if it mentoins Pete, it's ok with me :D

    I've got a spot at Lukin's.
I knocked the door at Lukin's.
Open the fridge. Now I know life is worth.

I found the key but I return to find an open door.

I don't think the Who was really gone until John died...they definitely weren't the same without Keith though
