THE BLACK CROWES TO RELEASE
‘WARPAINT’
FIRST STUDIO ALBUM OF ALL NEW MATERIAL IN SEVEN YEARS
DUE OUT MARCH 4 ON THEIR OWN SILVER ARROW RECORDS LABEL,
DISTRIBUTED BY MEGAFORCE/SONY RED BMG
BAND TO PERFORM ‘WARPAINT’ IN ITS ENTIRETY ON LIMITED
“ONE NIGHT ONLY” SWING
From the beginning, THE BLACK CROWES have done things their own way. And it’s good to know that some things don’t change.
WARPAINT—the band’s first album of all-new studio material in seven years, due out March 4 worldwide—will be independently released on the band’s own newly formed Silver Arrow Records and distributed through Megaforce/Sony Red BMG. It’s their first studio release since the acclaimed LIONS album in 2001 (on V2).
Produced and mixed by Paul Stacey at Allaire Studios, Woodstock, NY, the album features 11 songs, all of which were written by CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON, except “God’s Got It” by the Reverend Charlie Jackson. The album builds compellingly on the band’s trademark adventurous brew of rock, blues, country, soul and gospel.
WARPAINT marks the recording debut of two new band members—guitarist Luther Dickinson and keyboardist Adam MacDougall--who join CHRIS and RICH and drummer Steve Gorman and bassist Sven Pipien. Dickinson, of North Mississippi Allstars, officially steps in to replace producer/guitarist Paul Stacey, whose position with the band was always intended to be temporary. THE BLACK CROWES are deeply appreciative that Stacey committed his genuine talent and time to the band and their performances for most of 2007.
The album’s complete track listing is: “Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution,” “Walk Believer Walk,” “O, Josephine,” “Evergreen,” “We Who See The Deep,” “Locust Street,” “Movin’ On Down The Line,” “Wounded Bird,” “God’s Got It,” “There’s Gold In Them Hills,” and “Whoa Mule.”
CHRIS says the album’s title signifies “the revolution that could take place in all our souls.”
Meanwhile, for the first time in their 18-year career, THE BLACK CROWES will perform an album of theirs in its entirety. On a special run of “One Night Only” shows beginning on March 4, fans will experience WARPAINT performed in its entirety, after which the band will play songs from their catalog and selected surprises. Dates TBA.
THE BLACK CROWES will begin their world tour March 24 by headlining the Byron Bay Festival in Australia. They’ll continue their down under trek—their first since 1991—through April 5 before playing special engagements in Tokyo, Amsterdam and London, and concluding with shows in Hamburg and Cologne, Germany (dates TBA).
THE BLACK CROWES have sold over 20 million albums and are known as one of rock’s best live acts. They have been called “The Most Rock n’ Roll Rock ‘n’ Roll Band In the World” and a “thoroughbred American rock ‘n’ freakin’ roll band”; their panoramic live shows feature alternating set lists and signature incendiary musical explorations. i liked them better when they kind of dropped the hippie jam band thing and just rocked.
BYS is not my favorite by them or anything but it does have a couple of my favorite songs from the Crowes:
Virtue and Vice
By Your Side
Welcome to the Good Times
But I agree, Southern Harmony through Three Snakes is their best by far.

Do let me know if any new songs leak. I so wanna see the Crowes again. It's been too long.
Another great band that has recorded in my backyard.
What is Pearl Jam waiting for?
Marc Ford was back for awhile. I saw them with him last year and it was awesome. He left because touring was apparently interfering with his sobriety.
Luther Dickinson is no Marc Ford, but he is good, and should be a good fit for the Crowes. I'd definitely recommend checking out some North Mississippi All Stars for some good raw blues rock.
poor guy. kinda sucks that he had to choose between his band and his sobriety.
for shits and giggles, my rankings of their albums:
southern harmony
amorica
lost crowes
shake your money maker
by your side
three snakes
lions
Lost Crowes
Shake your money
Amorica
Southern Harmony
Three Snakes
By Your Side
Lions
Yeah, I know. I was sad when he left the second time. Ed Harsh too. The perfect lineup for them was:
Chris Robinson
Rich Robinson
Marc Ford
Ed Harsch
Johnny Colt
Steve Gorman
That's the genius behind the perfect Southern Harmony -> Amorica -> Three Snakes and a Charm.
I'll give the new stuff a chance for sure. Looking forward to Luther actually because when I saw them last month in Dallas, they were great, but Paul was not that great. I've just hated the revolving door they've had since '97 or so.

Great band.
My album rankings would be:
Southern Harmony (I agree with a previous poster that this is pretty much a perfect record)
Lost Crowes
Amorica
Three Snakes
Shake Your Money Maker
By Your Side and Lions are pretty much tied.
Far and away the Crowes worst record. That was the "lets dumb down our style to that of an average bar band and see if the fans come back record".

I can't really rank their albums other than to put "Lions" on the back end and maybe "By Your Side" just ahead of it. I do think that "Amorica" and "Three Snakes" are vastly underated albums though.
it's excellent. the second disc is half alternative versions of amorica songs and half new unreleased tunes, and the first disc is an entire album recorded but never released. god knows why, it's got some truly amazing songs.
He plays on Both Sides of the Gun and There Will Be Light.

He basically was the second guitarist for the Innocent Criminals for a while. Check out the Live at the Hollywood Bowl DVD to see him playing with them.
Paint an 8 is one of my all time favorite Crowes songs.
