My friend just came across a copy of an original from an antiques store for 60 dollars. Has anyone ever seen a copy on ebay? or have any idea how much it might be worth? it's in pretty good condition. I'm just curious, is all.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows any info about it.

I'm not sure when it was first published, but a while back on ebay I saw a really, really old printing (very early 20th century) and it wasn't going for a whole lot.
I am lost, I'm no guide. But I'm by your side...

The first editions are cloth bound sets (its 2 books) published around 1899 or so. The 2nd edition is one giant book (my buddy got me a copy for my 15th birthday in '95 - he worked in a used book store, hes not crazy) and is from like 1901 or so ... after that, they seemed to vary back and forth - mostly single large books (and they are HUGE books) and then some later editions going back to 2 volume sets ... the price is largely determined by CONDITION, and not which printing it is ... unless we are talking about the 1st or 2nd editions.

Those editions are worth a great lil bit.

There are a LOT of editions

    1905
    1907
    1910
    1919
    1926
and so on and so on

bookfinder ... use it. love it. That was 1926

    here are older ones

1905 edition: $400 (see above link)

1910 2 volume set edition here

    1907 edition

Looks like no first or 2nd editions,
    unless my memory fails me
(don't have my copy at hand) ... but i'm pretty sure i remember looking in the front and seeing that the first edition was just prior to the 20th century, at like 1899 or something.

Edit: just looked it up on the net. Damn i'm good. First edition is definately 1899. :D
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

I used to have a copy my parents gave me when they were in the antique business, not sure where it went. It's like a giant self-help guide on health, what to eat, what not to eat, what activities are healthy and which are harmful. It's pretty archaic and funny when you get into it. If you did half of the things in there nowadays, you'd probably be hauled off the the funny farm. All of the artwork from Vitalogy, including the cover, is taken directly from this book.

It's actually pretty interesting. It's about 100 pages long and is basically a "how to live" manual. how to be healthy (proper exercise, diet), how to raise a family, etc. It's cool because, as it came out in like 1899 or something, some stuff is pretty dated. Worth seeking out, both for the pj connection and because it's an interesting read.

i got the 1903 edition, 1st print, about 5 years ago with shipping for around $35.00 in VERY good condition. VERY slight yellowing of page edges & no spine seperation. It is an absolute must for ANY PJ fan. One excerpt states "to rid one of freckles, mix 1 part bleach & 1 part borax & scrub affected area twice daily until results are reached?" If anyone would like i will take photos & post. also PM with any other ?

you can find them dirt cheap, you just have to look around. I got two copies, one older one 1920s, I think, in crap condition and one newer one (1940s) in perfect condition. I got them for less than $20 each.

I have a neat copy from 1940. I was looking to have one forever, and super happy when I found it for a reasonable price. I think I paid around 40 bucks. It has way more than 100 pages, and I love the overall style of it. There are these coloured pages in the front, of the head and the organs and all that. The stuff they used in the booklet of the album, just much more rich in colour and detail. And they expand. There is a paperback copy on the market too, but it is a modern republication. This you can get for cheap. I had to look around quite some time to find one in good shape and for a good price. I absolutely love it. Back then, you were seemingly only able to get it by subscription.
