Damn, I didn't know about this show, or about CBGB's closing. I saw Patti Smith twice in London. Both great shows.
After her set was over, and the club had partly cleared out, Ms. Smith returned to the stage for a silent postscript. As fans held up outstretched hands, Ms. Smith reached into a bag and handed out little black pins. They read, “What remains is future.”
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
Oh, she started with Piss Factory! (the spoken word piece - it kicks)
Not in order:
Birdland
Distant Fingers
Tide is High (Blondie cover)
Marquee Moon (Television cover)
Lou Reed tune, forgot what it was
Then pretty much in order:
Ghost Dance
Sonic Reducer (Dead Boys cover)
Free Money
Pissing in a River
Gimme Shelter (you know who cover)
Space Monkey
Medley of Ramones tunes with I think lenny kaye singing
Blitzkrieg Bop
Beat on the Brat
Rock and Roll (radio?)
Sheena is a Punk Rocker
Aint it Strange
So You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star (Byrds cover)
Babelogue into Rock n Roll N***er, just like off Easter
For your Love (Yardbirds cover)
My Generation (I don't have to tell you the original band I hope)
Horses into Gloria
There was one somewhere in there about Learning to Walk without Chains, I think it was new, a very anti-war song about someone who'd been in guantanamo.
I love Patti. I've loved her for many years.....

Knowledge is not wisdom.
Wisdom is not truth.
Truth is not beauty.
Beauty is not love.
Love is not music.
Music is the best."

What I'm waiting for is if someone recorded it off the webcast and it goes up on yousendit or a torrent somewhere. If I find it I'll post where - you guys do the same okay?
While I was watching it, I was finishing some overdue paperwork, and the screen was real small, so I didn't realize FLEA was playing with them for a while and that's who they were singing happy birthday to! (He mentions it in his latest fleamail)
Tom Verlaine played with them for a while too.
Oops - gotta leave for work.
