I really dig this Gretsch (in the orange color) was wondering if anyone has any advice or thoughts. Looking for a blues/rock sound from Black Crowes to BB King ish, Obviously I would prefer a Gibson but dont have the money so please make other suggestions in the same $ range. Thanks

I just picked up one of these used. Really solid guitar. Gonna change the pickups, but for now, its great.

I have a G5129, which is virtually the same as the G5120 I think, except it has DeArmond Pickups instead of Gretsch ones, and has different ranges of colours.

I'd say it's an excellent guitar for the money, I love mine to pieces, and it's what I'd call a REAL semi-hollow, it's much deeper, and acoustically louder, than your Epiphone Casinos and the like, although they are good guitars in their own right. The bigsby is great fun and well built, it's gorgeous, not too heavy, the action is nothing like my Tele's, but still good. Tonal capabilities are pretty good, nice vintage, mellow cleans, and gritty sharp distortion.

I'm very happy with mine, go try one out if you haven't already.

Take a look at these - nice guitars for the money: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-AS103-Artcore-Custom-Series-Semi-Hollowbody-Electric-Guitar-103667507-i1321979.gc
I have it's predecessor from NAMM 2004 with a violin finish (1 of 5 with all American Hardware).
I had mine re-fretted with stainless steel frets last year and now it's one of my favorite guitars.
It may be more than you want to spend, but take a look at the lower priced ARTCORE models:
    http://www.guitarcenter.com/Page-1.gc?src=Ibanez+Artcore&ipp=15 The AS93 is similar to a Gibson 335.

How thick are the Artcores? I always got the impression that they were closer to true-hollowbodies (pretty think) compared to something like a 335.

not at all - the models like the AS103 or AS93 are thin like a 335

That's not bad at all, I just don't like the headstock, heh. I'm really itching for a McCarty Hollowbody to be honest.

    Yeah, I love my click:PRS Hollowbody . . . .

I don't mind the click:Ibanez Headstock since a little more headstock mass actually
gives you a little more tone and sustain - just seems to transfer tone better.
I think the headstock matches the body size well: click:Ibanez AS103

  • my wife just got me a DG335 for a gift, and I can't put it down. I never thought that I would like a hollowbody as much as I do. The les paul, strat, and tele have gotten absolutely no love for the last few weeks. Its very comfortable to play, and you can really get a lot of diverse sounds out of it. I am amazed at how well it cleans up by just backing off the volume. I assumed that it would sound a lot like my lpc, but it's a totally different beast. I do like the sheratons, and the casino's for the money too. Just depends on what kind of pickups and look you're after. best of luck!
What ain't a country I ever heard of. Do they speak English in what?

I LOVE semi-hollows, they're the best. They sit so comfortably when standing up and don't shift about much. Going from playing my Epi Dot standing up to my Epi LP feels really odd because the LP keeps shifting about like a fidgeting child. So now I play the dot pretty exclusively. Wish I had the money for an ES335 or Starcaster though. :(

i haven't played one (can't seem to find one other than online) but the Washburn HB35 semi-hollow looks beautiful.
