What's the best aftermarket pickups to throw in a Strat to cop Mike's sound? Thanks.

  • Any vintage strat pickups through a tube amp will get you close. I play a John Mayer strat through a blues jr, and can get very nice yellow ledbetter like tones out of it. Those pick-ups are based off Texas Specials which are found in a SRV strat. They sound great with overdrive too.

    check out 54's

or anything from lindy fralin (blues specials are supposed to be great)

  • Well, I guess I'll be okay with Fat 50's.
  • I'd say Fralin Blues Specials. A nice, slightly-overwound vintage Strat tone.

Fender's Texas Specials would work pretty well, too.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

57/62's from Fender aren't bad at all. but Lollar Blondes or Blackfaces

Fralin Vintage Hot's are a good pick too. I LOVE lindy fralin.

there are some sound clips over at Acme guitar works page if you want to compare.

As far as I know the pickups in his 59 are stock... but keep in mind age and everything.

your hands, a nice big speaker cabinet and single coil alnico magnets should pretty much get you there anyway.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
