Which Strat that Fender currently produces is the closest to Mike's tone without mods?

or

If you could part a Strat out, what parts would you use?

  • You can't go wrong with the straight up american series, just a GREAT all around guitar.

I'd say though, make your own tone, do what sounds good to YOU.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

i've read various interviews over the years where mike says he keeps the original pickups in his guitars. all you have to do is look up what year strats and gibsons he plays. but don't go out and buy some vintage pickups when you can buy reissues that are EXACTLY the same and cost much much much less.
  • buy a rory gallagher strat...it looks beat up like mikes and def has that vintage strat sound....maybe the best neck o nay guitar ive ever picked up..

non-custom, the american vintage 62 reissue.
  • It's also important to note that AT LEAST 1/2 the tone is in the amp!

  • Very true about the amp being the other half. Unfortunately my neighbors may complain if I start cranking a Bassman or Marshall. I'll have to stick with a Blues Junior.

I've been seriously considering a '62 re-issue but, I would have to get one off E-bay. I would be nervous spending 1,400 on something and breaking it.

these might be the best pickups to go with:

they're probably a little less expensive than one of these:
