http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjA5faZF1A8
but I'm slow OK !!
Anyone had a go at learning this ??
My student showed this to me today and asked if I could teach him. I said, not just yet. I got a pretty good tab today, but it's 14 pages of solid shredding, so it's gonna take a while.
Anyone else looked at it ?

edit: I just looked at your link. that guy is good, but he's not the original guy that did it. the first guy that did it was username "Jerry C"
A lot of these Asian kids get taught early, and really dedicate themselves.
Korea is where JApan was 20 yrs ago, and quite urbanised. That kid is probably in an apartment in a big city, and just practices massively.
There were some comments slagging his guitar, but it looks like a high end ESP to me, so he is probably well resourced by his parents.
My student is only 9, but is really gettign the hang of stuff fast, and practices heaps and heaps, so he is gonna progress really fast as well.

I agree about the dedication and the hours that they must put in. This JerryC is older than he looks, I think he's in his mid 20s and is a professional guitarist. This internet phenomenon that he started with this song pretty much launched his career, according to the story on him in GW.
I also agree about the guitar. I would dare to say that the ESP the first kid has is better than JerryC's Strat. glancing at it, it looks like it has 24 frets as opposed to the Strat's 22 and it is probably much better made.
I honestly don't think that song would be that hard to learn, there really doesn't seem to be that many tricky parts in it, imo. it's just A LOT to learn.
I'm with you, i started to learn it then i just lost interest.
Shredding without sweating...Jerry C

Here's one version played at 75%, might help you with your student.

Edit: Sorry MLC2006 for doubling up on the link, we must have been posting at the same time.
Yes, I agree that the degree of difficulty is appraochable. There is no complex timing, manly straight eighths. Also is is just all teh modes of Em, so it is a good vehicle for learnign teh whole fretboard.
I have introduced my kid to the intro to Sweet Child, which is good preparation and just 8th notes, so, I'll build on that for a bit to teach him all teh relevant scales and use Canon as a learning goal.
The sweep picking part is the trickiest, and I'll use that to push myself to that level.

I personally believe this version to be better
and even this version isnt that hard to play, it just takes a hellvua lot of practice at first

yeah, that dude's got his shit down. it looks like he packs more in and throws in more tricks than the first 2 guys. I would say that one would be probably more difficult than the first version.
I guess I'm just interested in the piece, cos I'm familiar with it, played it at my first wedding. I looked at transcibing it to guitar form fly-shit a while ago, before I knew about any of these guys. I'm less interested in whose version is the best.
Music is not a competition to me.
