i'm not real big on shameless self-promotion, but i'm running out of options with this, so here goes...

i play guitar. my band recently broke up do to conflicting ideas regarding our long-term goals as a band (among other things). i had written about two dozen songs to this point, and it bothers me that nobody will ever hear them unless i find a new band. so for the past several months, i have been searching for musicians. no luck so far. so that's why i'm posting here.

the only recordings we had made were cheap basement tapes for the sole purpose of registering our copyrights. nobody outside the copyright office was ever meant to hear them. i am a little self-conscious regarding the quality of these recordings (as well as my playing on them), but at this point i really have no other option than to post some of these recordings online so that other musicians can get a sense of my writing style:

i wrote the music for all four tracks and the lyrics for tracks 2, 3, and 4.

i also have a long-winded rant on this site that explains my thoughts on music and what type of band i am looking for.

if you are even a little bit interested in starting a new band, please PM me, IM me, reply to this thread, or use the contact info provided on the myspace site. comments and criticism are also useful.

please do not be put off by the following things:

1) my horribly improvised solo on "dirty mirror"... again, it was never meant to be heard by anyone.

2) the long-winded rant about what i am looking for. it is not intended to scare anyone away. i was just extremely frustrated when i wrote it as a result of what happened with my old band. i'm sure that many of you musicians out there can understand this.

3) the EV-clone on vocals. there were many reasons why my band broke up, and he was not the least of them.

ok... that's all i have to say. thanks for taking the time to read this!

Only comments, good and bad are that:

    1. I like the riff for Dirty Mirror, sounds like the music that's right up my alley.
    2. It is a little whiney, I don't know if you'll get much luck finding musicians close enough to you to make it worthwhile. Have you tried craigslist and/or checking out some local bars/other bands to find some people to jam with?

thanks you for your comments :D

yeah, i know it can get kinda whiny at times. i am hoping that this problem will decrease when i find the right singer, but at the same time i'm sure that a lot of it has to do with my writing style. it's certainly something for me to consider as i continue to write. hopefully i can get that straightened out, because the local scene around here is pretty much entirely emo, and i want to steer as far away from that direction as possible.

that's part of the reason i'm having trouble finding musicians. i'm basically a grunge/metal/classic rock fan and i KNOW that there are like-minded musicians out there SOMEWHERE, but it's been difficult trying to sort through the legions of emo kids in order to find them. i've been milking my musical contacts for all they're worth. they've been helpful but haven't found any musicians for me yet. i've been searching myspace and facebook for a while, but i actually haven't tried craigslist yet. i guess that's a logical next step. good advice. thank you.
  • where in central NJ are you from?

    pennington...

or hopewell, since most people haven't heard of pennington...

or "somewhere in between princeton and trenton," since it turns out that most people haven't heard of hopewell either...

ok, you're about 45 minutes from me i think...

i'm about 15 minutes from the PA bridge on I-95, so i guess you could call that "western jersey" if you wanted to. i was actually referring to central jersey as in north vs. south. all of my north jersey friends like to tell me i'm from south jersey, which just isn't true since i'm north of trenton (the universally accepted dividing line).

in any case, pass along my info if you know anyone who might be interested...

    thanks!
