Beat It vs. Do The Evolution

I've heard Ed is a fan of Michael Jackson but have you ever noticed the the "Do The Evolution" solo from Stone is stinkingly similar to the guitar riff from Michael Jackson's "Beat It"? I was listening to "Beat It" and I was wondering if there was a certain type of distortion used on it. It's pretty 80's and I'm guessing I'll be able to get the sound with my DS-1.

i think thats with a wah pedal, leave it in one position so you get that tone

  • I also heard Slash soloed on it

I think Eddie VH did the solo? Or am I thinking of another MJ song?

Oh no, I was talking about his solo (in terms of how it sounds a lot like the opening of Beat It)

No you're right. And what someone else said, it's that spot with the wah pedal pulled back a little that people call the 'sweet spot.'

  • This is so confusing. What part of "Beat It" sounds like "Do the Evolution"?

I just don't hear any similarities in the songs.
  • slash played guitar on 'black or white'.

The opening riff in Beat It (the guitar one)is similar to the solo in DTE at the 1:05/1:06 part

Personally I hear no similarity, but yes Stone is using a wah left open.
